ROLE SUMMARY:

 

Reddam House Berkshire is seeking a qualified and compassionate Summer Camp Nurse (Residential) to provide medical and pastoral support during the Summer Camp programme running from Sunday 12 July to Saturday 8 August 2026, with three training days prior to the start of camp and one wash-up/feedback day at the end of the contract.

 

The successful candidate will be resident on site for the duration of the camp and will act as the primary point of contact for health and medical matters, working closely with the Director of Camps, Head of Boarding and Residential Mentors. The role includes responsibility for first aid, medication administration, medical records, emergency response, and supporting students’ physical and emotional wellbeing, including overnight and on-call duties.

 

This is a full-time, fixed-term residential role, working a 6-day rota with a minimum of 48 hours per week, including evenings and overnight on-call responsibilities as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provide the highest standards of medical and pastoral care for all day and boarding campers, including safeguarding, health and wellbeing.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all medical matters during camp.
  • Administer first aid, routine medications and emergency medical care in line with camp policies and consent forms.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records, including medication logs, incident reports and care plans.
  • Safely store, monitor and administer medication in line with medical protocols.
  • Provide medical support during evenings and overnight and respond to emergencies when on call.
  • Support boarding routines where health considerations apply, including illness monitoring and welfare checks.
  • Coordinate with external medical services where required, including GPs, pharmacies or emergency services.
  • Support health and safety procedures, including infection control, hygiene and emergency response planning.
  • Provide guidance to camp staff regarding illness, injury and safeguarding concerns.
  • Support students’ emotional wellbeing, including reassurance during anxiety or homesickness.
  • Assist with excursions and activities, ensuring medical readiness and emergency equipment is in place.
  • Attend training days, safeguarding briefings and all staff meetings.
  • Undertake additional reasonable duties as directed by the Director of Camps.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

 

  • Qualified Nurse or Nurse in Training (e.g. student nurse in final years).
  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational, residential, healthcare or camp setting.
  • Experience providing first aid, medical care or health support in a structured environment.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency or high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in the absence of the Director.
  • Ability to ensure students’ physical and emotional wellbeing.
  • Experience working in boarding schools, residential camps or holiday programmes (desirable).
  • Experience supporting overnight or on-call care (desirable).
  • Familiarity with safeguarding and pastoral care frameworks (desirable).
  • Valid First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain prior to camp.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff and students.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours and camp routines.
  • Willingness to live on site and work a 6-day rota including evenings and overnight duties.
