ROLE SUMMARY:

 

The Science Laboratory Technician plays a vital role in supporting the Science Department across both the National and International Curricula (including Cambridge IGCSE and A-Levels). The successful candidate will ensure a safe, efficient, and well-organized laboratory environment, enabling teachers to deliver high-quality practical science lessons in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Prepare resources: Set up apparatus, chemical solutions, and specimens for daily practical classes and Cambridge science exams.
  • Support lessons: Assist teachers during practical experiments to guarantee safe and proper equipment usage by students.
  • Maintain safety: Enforce strict health regulations, chemical safety guidelines (COSHH), and safe hazardous waste disposal.
  • Manage inventory: Keep accurate, digital logs of all laboratory equipment, chemicals, glassware, and stock levels.
  • Handle procurement: Monitor supply levels and collaborate with the department coordinator to order new materials timely.
  • Clean facilities: Clean, dismantle, and securely store all apparatus and scientific materials after class completion.
  • Audit equipment: Conduct routine maintenance, calibration checks, and safety inspections on all laboratory tools and stations.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

 

  • Education: Degree or technical diploma in a science-related field (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or Laboratory Science).
  • Experience: Previous experience working as a technician in an educational institution (preferably an international school) or a scientific laboratory.
  • Languages: Professional fluency in English is essential; proficiency in Portuguese is highly valued to interact with the national curriculum sector.
  • Technical Skills: Good knowledge of IT tools (MS Office) for inventory management and digital logging.
