ROLE SUMMARY:
Colégio Internacional de Vilamoura (CIV) is the leading international school in the South of Portugal, offering a rich academic environment grounded in humanistic and global values. As a school offering both the Cambridge International curriculum and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, we seek an enthusiastic, highly qualified, and student-centered Chemistry & Science Teacher. The successful candidate will teach general Science across Key Stage 3 and deliver high-quality, inquiry-based Chemistry lessons for IGCSE and IBDP students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and deliver rigorous, inquiry-based Chemistry lessons for IBDP (HL/SL) and Cambridge IGCSE, as well as general Science at Key Stage 3.
- Design and implement effective learning strategies to meet the diverse academic and linguistic needs of an international student body.
- Lead hands-on laboratory experiments, ensuring strict compliance with all health, safety, and eco-school regulations.
- Prepare senior students thoroughly for external Cambridge IGCSE and IB Diploma examinations.
- Assess, track, and record student progress consistently, providing high-quality feedback to students and regular academic reports to parents.
- Act as a Form Tutor, supporting the holistic well-being, pastoral care, and academic growth of a designated group of students.
- Collaborate closely with the Science Department to develop resources, share best practices, and build cross-curricular projects.
- Contribute actively to the wider school life by leading extracurricular activities, science clubs, or community events.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Hold a University degree (BSc or higher) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related scientific field.
- Possess a recognized teaching qualification such as a PGCE, QTS, or equivalent international teaching certification.
- Have proven experience teaching IBDP Chemistry and Cambridge IGCSE Science within an international or multicultural school setting.
- Demonstrate native or near-native fluency in English (written and spoken), with strong cross-cultural communication skills.
- Show proficiency in integrating educational technology, digital tools, and data loggers into the science curriculum.
- Display a positive, open-minded, and collaborative approach aligned with CIV’s humanistic and democratic values.
- Exhibit exceptional organizational and classroom management skills, with a passion for inspiring a love for scientific inquiry.
