IB Physics Teacher

ROLE SUMMARY:

Vilamoura International School (CIV) is a leading educational institution in the south of Portugal, offering Pre-School, Primary, and Secondary Education through both national and international curricula, including Cambridge Assessment International Education programmes.

Set within a unique natural environment and featuring an 18,500 m² outdoor play area, CIV has, for over 40 years, developed an educational model that promotes early learning, inquiry-based education, and a values-driven approach grounded in democratic and humanistic principles.

CIV is dedicated to academic excellence and is seeking a Physics Teacher (IB background preferred) for a role starting in August 2026. The ideal candidate will inspire students through engaging and rigorous instruction, cultivate essential scientific and mathematical reasoning skills, nurture curiosity and critical thinking, and support the academic, social, and emotional growth of every learner.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and deliver Physics lessons in line with the International Baccalaureate (MYP/DP) frameworks and relevant curriculum requirements.
• Develop students’ scientific inquiry, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and practical laboratory skills through an inquiry-based learning approach.
• Design and implement units of inquiry aligned with the IB philosophy, integrating key concepts, global contexts, and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.
• Assess, monitor, and document student progress in accordance with IB assessment practices, providing clear, constructive, and ongoing feedback.
• Promote scientific literacy and real-world application through the study of core Physics topics such as mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves, and modern physics.
• Adapt teaching strategies to meet students’ different learning needs, paces, and learning styles.
• Create a positive, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating learning environment, including safe and effective laboratory practices.
• Collaborate with colleagues, the IB coordination team, and parents, actively participating in pedagogical meetings and ongoing professional development activities.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• A degree in Physics, Science, Education, or a related field.
• Experience teaching Physics, preferably within an IB (MYP/DP) or international school context.
• Strong subject knowledge and a solid understanding of IB teaching methodologies, with a focus on inquiry-based and practical learning.
• Ability to create a positive, safe, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating learning environment.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
• A strong commitment to students’ academic, social, and emotional development, aligned with IB values and the IB Learner Profile.
