ROLE SUMMARY:

 

Colégio Internacional de Vilamoura is seeking an enthusiastic and highly qualified Teacher of English to join our Secondary department. As a leading international school in Southern Portugal, CIV focuses on academic excellence, inquiry-based learning, and a values-driven approach grounded in humanistic and democratic principles. The successful candidate will inspire a diverse, multicultural student body and contribute to our commitment to global citizenship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver high-quality, inquiry-based lessons for the Cambridge IGCSE and IB Diploma Programme (Language A and/or B).
  • Assessment & Feedback: Prepare students for external examinations through rigorous internal assessments and provide constructive feedback to drive academic progress.
  • IB Supervision: Mentor students through IB-specific requirements, including the Extended Essay (EE) and Internal Assessments (IA).
  • Inclusion & Differentiation: Adapt teaching strategies to support a diverse international student body, including those with English as an Additional Language (EAL).
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the English department and leadership to develop innovative schemes of work and shared educational resources.
  • Pastoral Care: Contribute to student well-being as a Form Tutor, fostering an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Education: A degree in English Literature, English Studies, or a related field, along with a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, Master’s in Education).
  • Experience: Proven experience teaching IGCSE and IB DP curricula. Experience as a Cambridge or IB examiner is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Native or near-native English proficiency, exceptional communication skills, and proficiency in digital learning tools.
  • Mindset: A commitment to international-mindedness and the holistic development of students in a multicultural setting.
