ROLE SUMMARY:

Vilamoura International School (CIV) is a leading educational institution in the south of Portugal, offering Pre-School, Primary, and Secondary Education through both national and international curricula, including Cambridge programmes.

 

Set within a unique natural environment and featuring an 18,500 m² outdoor play area, CIV has, for over 40 years, developed an educational model that promotes early learning, inquiry-based education, and a values-driven approach grounded in democratic and humanistic principles.

 

CIV is dedicated to academic excellence and is seeking an IB Coordinator, starting in August for the next academic year, to lead and oversee the implementation and development of the International Baccalaureate programme within the International Curriculum. The ideal candidate will ensure programme compliance with IB standards and practices, support teachers in delivering high-quality inquiry-based learning, and promote the academic, personal, and social development of students in alignment with the IB philosophy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and coordinate the implementation and ongoing development of the IB programme (MYP and/or DP, as applicable).
  • Ensure compliance with IB standards and practices, including preparation for authorisation and evaluation visits.
  • Support and mentor teachers in curriculum planning, assessment design, and inquiry-based teaching methodologies.
  • Oversee curriculum documentation, unit planning, and alignment with IB frameworks.
  • Coordinate internal and external IB assessments, ensuring adherence to IB regulations and deadlines.
  • Monitor student progress and programme effectiveness, using data to inform continuous improvement.
  • Organise and lead IB-related professional development and collaborative planning sessions.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).
  • Promote international-mindedness and the IB Learner Profile across the school community.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, school events, and ongoing professional development activities.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A degree in Education or a related field (Master’s desirable).
  • Experience teaching within an IB programme (MYP and/or DP).
  • Previous experience as an IB Coordinator or in a curriculum leadership role (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of IB standards, practices, and assessment requirements.
  • Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor and support teachers in delivering high-quality IB instruction.
  • A strong commitment to the IB philosophy, international-mindedness, and holistic student development.
  • High levels of professionalism, attention to detail, and integrity.
