ROLE SUMMARY:

The Secondary Science Teacher at Reddam House plays a pivotal role in guiding students through their science education, ensuring a strong foundation in scientific principles and practices. With Biology or Chemistry teaching experience, you will be expected to deliver a high-quality, student-centered education that aligns with Reddam House’s mission of fostering academic excellence and holistic development. 

 

The Secondary Science teacher will assist in curriculum development, ensure the highest teaching standards, and inspire a love of scientific inquiry and problem-solving in students. By creating engaging lesson plans, assessing student progress, and contributing to the broader school community, this teacher ensures that students are empowered to achieve their full potential academically, socially, and personally. This role is central to driving the department’s vision and contributing to the broader educational objectives of Reddam House. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach Science innovatively across secondary year levels, fostering deep learning and student engagement.
  • Collaborate with Science staff on curriculum design, teaching strategies, and assessment practices aligned with Reddam House standards.
  • Develop inclusive programs that meet curriculum requirements and cater to diverse learning needs.
  • Promote scientific literacy and experimental skills through engaging initiatives and enrichment activities.
  • Maintain classroom discipline and a respectful learning environment, ensuring productive habits.
  • Manage resources including teaching materials and lab equipment to support high-quality instruction.
  • Assess student progress through exams, assignments, and feedback, reporting outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Participate in school life through events, meetings, and professional development, contributing to the broader community.
  • Support student well-being and ensure compliance with school policies and safety regulations.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE  

  • Proven experience in teaching Science to years 7-12, with a strong track record of student success.
  • Deep knowledge of Stage 5 & 6 Science pedagogy and curriculum design, with the ability to implement effective teaching practices.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Experience in using data to inform teaching practices and improve student outcomes.
  • Proficiency in managing budgets, resources, and departmental planning.
  • Experience in organising and leading extracurricular activities related to science.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within and across departments and with the wider school community.

  • A recognised teaching qualification, such as a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or equivalent.
  • Proven track record of leadership is essential.
  • Ongoing professional development in the field of education and Science teaching.  
  • Accreditation with NESA (New South Wales Education Standards Authority).
