ROLE SUMMARY:

The Secondary Science Teacher at Reddam House plays a pivotal role in guiding students through their science education, ensuring a strong foundation in scientific principles and practices. The Secondary Science Teacher is expected to deliver a high-quality, student-centered education that aligns with Reddam House’s mission of fostering academic excellence and holistic development. 


You will assist in curriculum development, ensure the highest teaching standards, and inspire a love of scientific inquiry and problem-solving in students. By creating engaging lesson plans, assessing student progress, and contributing to the broader school community, this teacher ensures that students are empowered to achieve their full potential academically, socially, and personally. This role is central to driving the department’s vision and contributing to the broader educational objectives of Reddam House.

This is a middle school (Year 7-9) position located at Reddam Sydney Woollahra campus.  Start date - Term 2, 2026.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach Science across secondary year levels using innovative, collaborative methods that foster deep learning connections.
  • Design curriculum and assessments aligned with Reddam House standards, ensuring diverse learning needs are met.
  • Engage with students, parents, and colleagues to uphold the school’s educational philosophy and community values.
  • Develop programs and initiatives that promote scientific literacy, experimental skills, and enthusiasm for Science.
  • Maintain classroom discipline and organisation, creating a respectful and productive learning environment.
  • Manage departmental resources, including teaching materials and laboratory equipment, to support quality instruction.
  • Prepare, administer, and mark assessments, providing timely feedback and detailed progress reports.
  • Participate in school activities and events, including excursions, assemblies, and extracurricular Science programs.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, health and safety regulations, and maintain NESA accreditation through ongoing professional development.
  • Support students’ well-being while contributing to staff meetings and professional learning initiatives.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Proven experience teaching Science (Years 7–9) with a record of student success.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Skilled in using data to inform teaching and improve student outcomes.
  • Proficient in managing budgets, resources, and departmental planning.
  • Experience organising and leading extracurricular Science activities and programs.
  • Passionate, innovative, and committed to inspiring students and improving education quality.
  • Approachable, empathetic, and focused on student welfare and holistic development.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills; adaptable and resilient under change.
  • Holds a Science degree and secondary teaching qualification.
  • Committed to ongoing professional development and maintaining NESA accreditation.

  • A valid Working with Children Check.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining NESA accreditation.
  • Provide lunch & playground cover and assist with pick up and drop off duties.
