ROLE SUMMARY:

The Secondary Dance Teacher at Reddam House plays a pivotal role in guiding students from Year 7 to Year 11 through their critical educational journey. This role is a part-time (0.6) position and involves delivering high-quality instruction in one or more subjects aligned with the NESA curriculum. The teacher is tasked with inspiring academic excellence, fostering intellectual curiosity, and supporting the personal development of students.

 

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other members of the department to deliver a diverse and innovative Dance curriculum, while inspiring students across Years 7–11 to achieve their potential in both practical and theoretical studies.

By creating engaging lesson plans, assessing student progress, and contributing to the broader school community, the teacher ensures that each student is empowered to achieve their full potential, both academically and personally. Start date is Term 1, 2026. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach Dance to Years 7–11, delivering both practical and theoretical lessons aligned with NESA curriculum.
  • Collaborate within the Dance Department on curriculum planning, resource sharing, and performance preparation.
  • Choreograph works for school performances and co-curricular Dance ensembles.
  • Foster student creativity and confidence, adapting to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Support a unified departmental vision for a rich and cohesive Dance education.
  • Contribute to cross-disciplinary Performing Arts projects and initiatives.
  • Manage classroom resources and setup, ensuring a tidy and engaging learning environment.
  • Assess and support student progress, providing tailored feedback and academic guidance.
  • Maintain a respectful and inclusive classroom atmosphere, promoting discipline and safety.
  • Participate in broader school activities, including supervision, events, meetings, and professional development.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching Dance at the secondary school level, with a strong understanding of NESA curriculum requirements and the ability to teach effectively and engage students with diverse learning needs.
  • Experience working with a range of dance styles and genres.
  • Strong skills in choreography, performance, and dance analysis.
  • Experience in preparing ensemble groups for eisteddfods and showcases.
  • Excellent classroom management skills, with a focus on creating a positive and disciplined learning environment.
  • Strong assessment and evaluation skills, with the ability to monitor and report on student progress accurately.
  • Experience in organising and supervising school activities and events.
  • Proficient in using educational technologies and creative teaching methods to enhance the learning experience.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A recognised teaching qualification, such as a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or equivalent.
  • Accreditation with NESA (New South Wales Education Standards Authority).

  • Valid Working with Children Check
  • Willingness to participate in school events and activities outside of regular school hours as required.
