ROLE SUMMARY:

The School Assistant supports teachers, students, and administrative staff in the daily operations of the school. This role involves assisting with classroom activities, supervising students, preparing materials, and ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist teachers with classroom management and instructional support. 
  • Supervise students during class, recess, lunch, arrival, and dismissal times. 
  • Support students with special needs or learning difficulties under the guidance of teaching staff. 
  • Prepare and organize learning materials and classroom resources. 
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and orderly classroom environment. 
  • Provide administrative support such as photocopying, filing, and data entry. 
  • Escort students to and from different areas of the school. 
  • Monitor student behaviour and report concerns to appropriate staff. 
  • Support school events, field trips, and extracurricular activities. 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE  

  • Communication skills – Clear and effective interaction with students, staff, and parents. 
  • Classroom support skills – Assisting with lesson preparation, student engagement, and behaviour management. 
  • Organisational skills – Managing materials, schedules, and tasks efficiently. 
  • Basic IT skills – Using school systems, email, and educational software. 
  • First aid knowledge – Often desirable or required, especially for playground or excursion supervision. 
  • Conflict resolution – Helping to manage minor disputes or behavioural issues calmly.

  • Patience and empathy – Essential for working with children, especially those with diverse needs or behavioural challenges. 
  • Reliability and responsibility – Trusted to supervise students and support staff consistently.

QUALIFICATIONS  

High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require additional certifications or training). 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • A valid Working with Children Check. 
  • Provide lunch & playground cover and assist with pick up and drop off duties. 
  • A willingness to attend school events outside regular hours as required (e.g., performances, parent-teacher interviews, etc.).
