ROLE SUMMARY:
The Primary Music Teacher at Reddam House plays a vital role in fostering the musical, intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of young learners. This position is responsible for delivering a dynamic music curriculum that aligns with educational standards while nurturing a love for music and promoting a positive learning environment. The teacher will engage students through a variety of musical activities, utilising creative and effective teaching methods tailored to diverse learning needs. The role supports the school’s mission of providing innovative, holistic, and student-centred education, ensuring that each child reaches their full potential in music and beyond.
This is a full time, fixed term position for Term 1 (2026) located at our Reddam Sydney Campus in Woollahra.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and Deliver Lessons: Prepare daily and long-term music lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and objectives.
- Teach Music Skills: Provide engaging instruction in singing, instruments, music theory, and appreciation of diverse musical styles and cultures.
- Create Learning Environment: Organize and manage classroom resources, ensuring spaces are inspiring, clean, and well-equipped.
- Use Creative Activities: Incorporate performances, ensembles, and music-based games to develop students’ skills and coordination.
- Maintain Classroom Discipline: Foster respectful, focused learning habits and supervise students during rehearsals, performances, and excursions.
- Assess and Report Progress: Evaluate students’ musical development, administer assessments, and provide feedback to students, parents, and administrators.
- Collaborate and Engage: Work with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects, attend meetings, and communicate with parents during school events.
- Support School Programs and Compliance: Assist with music performance programs, participate in school activities, uphold child protection laws, and maintain NESA accreditation.

- Proven Music Teaching Expertise: Experienced in teaching music at the primary level with strong curriculum knowledge.
- Comprehensive Music Instruction: Skilled in delivering lessons on performance, theory, and music appreciation across diverse genres.
- Classroom Management & Organisation: Ability to create a positive, disciplined learning environment and manage resources effectively.
- Assessment & Reporting: Strong skills in monitoring student progress, conducting assessments, and providing accurate feedback.
- Event Coordination: Experienced in organising and supervising concerts, performances, and music-related school events.
- Technology & Creativity: Proficient in music education technologies and innovative teaching methods to engage learners.
- Passion & Student Support: Committed to inspiring a love for music, supporting emotional and social development, and fostering creativity.
- Professionalism & Collaboration: Highly organised, adaptable, and a strong communicator who works well with colleagues, parents, and stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A recognised teaching qualification such as a Bachelor of Education (Primary) or Bachelor of Music Education.
- Accreditation with NESA and Valid Working with Children Check.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ongoing commitment to professional development and maintaining NESA accreditation.
- Willingness to participate in school events and activities outside of regular school hours.
