We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our busy early learning school. This role supports the preparation and delivery of nutritious meals and snacks for children aged 12 months to 5yrs olds at our early learning school, ensuring a clean and hygienic kitchen environment in compliance with food safety standards.

 

Located in Lindfield, a 3 min walk from Lindfield train station and street parking available, the hours for this role are 8am - 1:30pm (Monday - Friday).  The role will report to the kitchen supervisor for day to day direction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks according to the weekly menu and children’s dietary requirements.
  • Support the chef with basic food preparation tasks, including washing, chopping, and portioning food.
  • Ensure the kitchen, storage areas, and equipment are cleaned and sanitised daily.\
  • Maintain safe food handling and hygiene practices, including correct storage and labelling of food.
  • Assist with dishwashing and cleaning of kitchen utensils, plates, and equipment.
  • Check and unpack food deliveries, rotate stock, and report any shortages or issues.
  • Help maintain kitchen records, including temperature logs and cleaning schedules.
  • Collaborate with educators to accommodate children’s allergies and special dietary needs.
  • Follow all health and safety, hygiene, and centre policies and procedures.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: 

  • Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen, childcare setting, or similar role (desirable but not essential).
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen hygiene practices
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a busy environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Understanding of children’s dietary needs, allergies, and cultural food preferences (desirable).
  • Physically able to stand for long periods and carry out manual tasks.

  • Adaptability: Able to handle the dynamic environment of an early learning school, adjusting to changing tasks and priorities efficiently.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) or the ability to obtain one.
  • Food Handling Certificate.
  • First Aid Certificate. (desirable)
