Head of Science - Middle School

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Head of Science at Reddam House plays a vital role in shaping the scientific and analytical environment of the school. This position is responsible for leading the Middle School Science Department in delivering a high-quality, student-centred education that aligns with Reddam House’s mission of fostering academic excellence and holistic development. The Head of Science will oversee curriculum development, ensure the highest teaching standards, and inspire a love of scientific inquiry and problem-solving in students. This role is central to driving the department’s vision and contributing to the broader educational objectives of Reddam House.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead and manage the Middle School Science Department (7-9) with a specific focus on curriculum design, teaching strategies, and assessment practices.
• Oversee the professional development of Science teachers, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment that encourages continuous improvement and a student-focused learning environment.
• Teach Science classes with an emphasis on Stages 4&5, demonstrating exemplary teaching practices and setting a high standard for student engagement and achievement.
• Develop and implement initiatives to promote scientific literacy, experimental skills, and the appreciation of Science throughout the school, including extracurricular Science-related activities, such as science clubs, competitions, and enrichment programs.
• Engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, aligning with Reddam House’s educational philosophy.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• A teaching degree with a minimum of eight years of post-qualification experience, specialising in Science 
• Experience designing and developing programs with the NESA syllabus content
• A passion for teaching middle school (yrs 7-9) 
• Team leadership experience 
• Experience in teaching a discipline of Stage 6 Science is beneficial 
• Confidence in the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning
• A student-centric and holistic approach to education with high expectations and support for all students
• An open-minded approach, willingness to learn, develop and work in a fast-paced environment
• The right to work in Australia & a valid Working With Children check
