ROLE SUMMARY:

The Deputy Principal and Head of Senior School (Year 10-12) is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and plays a pivotal role in shaping the academic, pastoral, and cultural life of the Senior School. Working in close partnership with the Principal, the Deputy Principal / Head of Senior School provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure the delivery of an exceptional educational experience for students in Years 10, 11 and 12.

 

This role carries ultimate responsibility for the oversight of senior academic programs, HSC performance, pastoral care structures, student wellbeing, and regulatory compliance within the Senior School. The Deputy Principal / Head of Senior School also provides leadership and strategic oversight of the Bondi campus, ensuring alignment with the school’s vision and standards.  Fosters a culture of intellectual rigour, personal integrity, and holistic development, ensuring students are prepared for success at leading universities and in their broader lives beyond school.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the Executive Principal to deliver Senior School strategy and HSC excellence.
  • Lead improvement initiatives across Years 10–12 using data and best practice.

Academic Leadership (Years 10–12)

  • Oversee Stage 5–6 curriculum, subject selection, assessment, and reporting.
  • Lead HSC strategy, academic tracking, interventions, and extension pathways.
  • Ensure full NESA compliance, data accuracy, and management of external examinations.

Staff Leadership and Professional Culture

  • Lead, mentor, and develop HODs and Senior School teachers, ensuring high performance.
  • Oversee staff performance processes and recruitment of quality teachers.

Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Care

  • Oversee pastoral care, behaviour standards, attendance, and early intervention strategies.

Operations and Compliance

  • Manage Senior School operations, events, regulatory compliance, and act as Principal when required.

Community Engagement

  • Build strong partnerships with parents and represent the Senior School professionally in the wider community.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Proven track record of raising academic standards and driving measurable improvement in student outcomes
  • Extensive leadership experience within a high-performing secondary school environment, ideally within an independent school.
  • Demonstrated success in leading Stage 6 (HSC) or equivalent senior secondary programs, with evidence of strong academic results.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor and inspire staff to deliver excellence in teaching, learning and assessment practices.
  • Strategic thinker with the capacity to use data and evidence to inform decision making and improve academic performance.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with students, staff, parents and the wider school community.
  • Highly developed organisational, operational and project management capabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A recognised teaching qualification (Bachelor of Education or equivalent).
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Educational Leadership or a related field (highly regarded).
  • Current accreditation with NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
