ROLE SUMMARY:

 

Inspired Group is seeking to appoint an experienced whole school learning support teacher for the International School of Siena, Italy in August 2024. Applicants must have experience of teaching IB PYP or MYP or a strong background in concept and inquiry based teaching and learning as well as suitable qualifications and experience in learning support. The right candidate will be offered a stipend and the annually renewable role of Learning Support Coordinator.
The successful applicant will be a dynamic learning support teacher with experience of enabling students to achieve their potential. We are looking for experience, enthusiasm and a passion for teaching and inclusion, to inspire our students with a love of learning and open doorways for all to achieve their potential. They need to be a team player that can work within a small but busy school, collaborating with teachers to support the development of the best inclusive teaching practices as well as developing plans for individuals in need of support and challenge.
This is a chance to make a significant contribution to our school's development. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Principal and the Senior Leadership Team to drive forward the school’s strategic plan, mission and vision including a review of current learning support model and provision of services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Learning Support Coordinator will:
• develop and oversee the implementation of the school's Inclusion policy and contribute to other policies and handbooks as appropriate;
• carry out assessments of students to identify needs and monitor progress - including observations in the classroom, supporting teachers in the creation of tracking data and meeting with teachers and parents;
• Support the enrolment of prospective families through pre-enrollment evaluations.
• work with classroom teachers, the school leadership team, parents and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plans;
• Maintain accurate records of individual learning needs and provide regular updates on student progress through reporting and meetings with parents, students and teachers;
• lead and deliver regular professional development in school on inclusive/SEND best practices including Universal Design for Learning;
• make referrals and liaise with professionals outside of the school - this could include psychologists, health and social care providers, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists;
• provide advice, guidance and training to classroom teachers on inclusive teaching practices
• co-plan with classroom and homeroom teachers and LS colleagues to ensure all students are supported and challenged according to their personal needs
• provide small group support for students in need of curriculum modification and /or specific learning skills development;
• lead a team of Learning Support Assistants (LSA’s) to provide discreet, motivational support that maximises individual students social and academic progress and attainment;
• coordinate and conduct a range of testing/reporting to make applications to the IB for Inclusive Access Arrangements;
• maintain their own professional growth and development to remain up to date with current best practice in the field of learning support;
• Ensure the school has the appropriate resources and tools for supporting inclusive learning.
• Offering an Extra Curricular activity that supports or extends the current portfolio of offerings.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

 

• Be able to work independently cross school, maintaining strong professional relationships with SLT, teachers, students and families;
• be in possession of a university degree in a related subject and further qualifications relating to diagnostic testing for learning needs;
• have had recent experience successfully teaching within the 5-18 age range;
• be enthusiastic and passionate, showing a love of education, and having the ability to convey this successfully to students of all abilities;
• understand Approaches to Teaching and Learning skills and data tracking to improve challenge and progress;
• Have experience with IB pedagogy/inquiry, concept-based learning and Universal Design for Learning;
• a firm understanding of the importance of personalised learning in an inclusive environment;
• Someone who is willing to commit to a longer-term position.
