HEAD OF EXPRESSIVE ARTS & VISUAL ARTS TEACHER TO IBDP

ROLE SUMMARY:

King’s College, The British School of Latvia, is seeking an exceptional and visionary Head of Expressive Arts who will also serve as the Visual Arts teacher to IBDP level. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape a flourishing faculty during a period of dynamic growth. The successful candidate will play a key role in opening our new purpose-built art studio and further developing the school’s bespoke King’s College Art Academy.

This position is ideal for an inspirational, innovative art educator looking to take the next step in their career and build an outstanding Expressive Arts programme in a well-established and supportive international school community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead and manage the Expressive Arts department, including Visual Arts and Music, with strategic vision and day-to-day efficiency.

• Plan and deliver high-quality Visual Arts lessons to students across key stages, including IBDP.

• Develop and implement a forward-thinking curriculum, aligned with the IB and Inspired Education standards.

• Inspire students’ creativity through engaging, inclusive and challenging lessons.

• Organise and oversee school exhibitions, performances, and arts-based community events.

• Collaborate with colleagues to promote cross-curricular initiatives and enrichment opportunities.

• Manage department resources, including budgeting, equipment procurement, and facilities use.

• Support peripatetic teachers and line manage visiting music and arts specialists.

• Uphold the Inspired Teaching Standards in pedagogy, assessment, and classroom management.

• Actively engage with the wider school community, including participation in events, trips and extracurricular activities.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• A recognised teaching qualification and a degree in Art, Visual Arts, or a related subject.

• Experience teaching Visual Arts at IBDP or a similar advanced level.

• Proven leadership skills or the ambition and readiness to step into a faculty leadership role.

• A passion for expressive arts and an innovative approach to creative education.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to foster strong relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.

• A growth mindset and commitment to personal and professional development.

• Strong classroom management and the ability to inspire high standards of student behaviour and engagement.

• Enthusiasm for integrating Latvian cultural events and traditions into arts teaching.

• A commitment to holistic education and meaningful contributions beyond the classroom.
