ROLE SUMMARY:

 

King’s College, British School of Latvia, is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Careers Counsellor to join our team. This role is instrumental in guiding and supporting students in their career exploration and university application processes. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering our secondary school careers programme, leading engaging sessions, and forging strong links with universities and employers to enhance student opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Deliver an engaging and informative secondary school careers curriculum, covering post-16 and post-18 pathways, employability skills, CV writing, interview preparation, and career exploration.
  • Provide personalised one-to-one career guidance, supporting students in identifying their strengths, interests, and career aspirations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with universities, employers, and training providers to facilitate student engagement with career opportunities.
  • Organise and lead careers seminars, industry talks, and workshops, giving students insight into various professions and sectors.
  • Support students through university application processes, including UCAS, Common App, and individual European university applications, as well as personal statement writing and interview preparation.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, offering tailored feedback and resources to help them make informed career choices.
  • Stay up to date with developments in higher education, employment trends, and vocational training opportunities.
  • Develop and implement career resources, including job shadowing programmes, work experience placements, and career assessment tools.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, parents, and external stakeholders to create a supportive and informed careers guidance framework.
  • Occasionally participate in evening or weekend events such as university fairs and career seminars.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

 

  • A relevant qualification and experience in careers guidance, education, or a related field.
  • A strong understanding of post-16 and post-18 pathways, including university admissions and vocational options.
  • Previous experience working with secondary-aged students in an educational setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students, parents, and external partners.
  • A proactive and innovative approach to career development, creating meaningful opportunities for students.
  • A commitment to providing an inclusive, student-centred approach to careers education.
  • The ability to teach another subject is desirable but not essential.
