ROLE SUMMARY:

The Librarian will play a key role in developing and managing the school library for both the Primary and Secondary (Cambridge) sections. As the library is in its early stages of development, this position requires initiative, creativity, and 
excellent organisational skills to establish a welcoming, efficient, and inspiring learning environment.The Librarian will oversee all aspects of the library’s setup, daily management, and development, ensuring it becomes a 
central resource that supports teaching, learning, reading for pleasure, and research across the school.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Library Development & Management
• Lead the setup and organisation of the new school library, including cataloguing and arranging resources.
• Develop and implement library policies, borrowing systems, and procedures.
• Maintain an up-to-date catalogue using a suitable library management system.
• Create a welcoming and well-organised library environment.
• Work with ICT to integrate digital library resources.

2. Teaching & Learning Support
• Support teachers in finding age-appropriate, curriculum-aligned reading materials.
• Promote information literacy, independent research, and reading for pleasure.
• Organise reading events such as book fairs, author visits, and themed literacy days (e.g., World Book Day).
• Guide students in research skills, referencing, and effective use of information sources.

3. Resource Management
• Plan and oversee the acquisition of new materials with Heads of Department and budget holders.
• Ensure resources align with the Cambridge curriculum and school ethos.
• Maintain accurate records of inventory, loans, and usage.
• Review and update library stock regularly for relevance and quality.

4. Collaboration & Communication
• Work with the Head of Primary and Deputy Head (Academic) to align library services with academic needs.
• Promote library use through effective communication with students, staff, and parents.
• Support Primary and Secondary reading programmes and literacy initiatives.
• Liaise with external book suppliers and publishers.

5. Safeguarding, Health & Safety
• Ensure the library is a safe, inclusive space and comply with safeguarding and health & safety policies.
• Supervise students to encourage positive behaviour and productive use of the library.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Education, or related field
• Experience working in a school or educational setting
• Strong organisational and ICT skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Passion for promoting reading and literacy
