ROLE SUMMARY:
Khalil Gibran School (KGS) is an established British international school in Rabat, Morocco, founded in 1986. Located in Morocco’s capital, the school offers educators the opportunity to live and work in a city that combines rich cultural heritage, green spaces and coastal living.
KGS offers two educational pathways: the Moroccan curriculum and the Cambridge pathway, leading to IGCSE and A Level qualifications. With a trilingual approach to learning in English, Arabic and French, the school provides a welcoming, multicultural environment where students are encouraged to achieve academic excellence, develop their individual talents and become confident, independent learners prepared for a global future.
Khalil Gibran School (KGS) is seeking an experienced and passionate Head of Primary and ELS to join the school in August 2027, leading our Primary provision across two sites as one coherent phase. The Early Learning School (ELS) caters for Early Years to Year 3, while Years 4 to 6 are based at the Main Campus. We are looking for an established primary educator with a strong background in primary teaching and leadership, who can establish a shared vision, curriculum and consistent standards across both sites while leading from the classroom, modelling excellent teaching practice and coaching colleagues to improve student outcomes.
Working closely with the Deputy Head of Primary and ELS and Secondary school leaders, the postholder will ensure a seamless learning journey from Early Years to Year 6 and a strong transition into Secondary. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, they will contribute to whole-school strategy while fostering a positive, inclusive culture in which every child can thrive.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Provide strategic and hands-on leadership across ELS and the Main Campus Primary Section, establishing a shared vision, consistent expectations and a strong sense of identity.
-
Lead by example in the classroom, modelling excellent primary teaching, coaching colleagues and driving continuous professional development.
-
Lead curriculum development, teaching, learning and assessment, ensuring strong progression and outcomes across the primary years.
-
Work closely with the Deputy Head to ensure effective leadership across both sites, drawing on the strengths of the wider leadership team.
-
Oversee key transitions between Year 3 and Year 4, and from Year 6 into Secondary, ensuring continuity of learning and student support.
-
Collaborate with Secondary leaders to strengthen curriculum progression and improve outcomes across the all-through school.
-
Develop and support staff and middle leaders, promoting professional growth, accountability and high standards.
-
Promote safeguarding, inclusion, student wellbeing and positive behaviour across both sites.
-
Build strong relationships with parents and the wider school community, while overseeing staffing, resources and the Primary budget effectively.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
-
A degree and recognised teaching qualification, with substantial successful primary classroom teaching experience and a proven track record in primary leadership.
-
Strong expertise in primary pedagogy, curriculum development and assessment, with particular strength in Key Stage 1 and 2.
-
A commitment to remaining actively involved in teaching, modelling excellent classroom practice and coaching colleagues effectively.
-
Experience improving teaching quality, developing staff and driving measurable improvements in student outcomes.
-
The ability to lead strategically, develop other leaders and maintain consistent standards across multiple sites.
-
Strong knowledge of early reading, phonics, writing and mathematics, alongside a commitment to ensuring continuity of learning from Early Years through to Year 6.
-
Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with excellent spoken and written English.
-
A clear commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and student wellbeing.
-
A warm, energetic and child-centred approach, with the resilience and organisational skills to lead a diverse team across two sites.
-
An appreciation of Moroccan culture and a commitment to contributing positively to the KGS community.
Experience in an international or bilingual school, leading across multiple sites, and working within an all-through school would be advantageous. Additional leadership qualifications, instructional coaching training, safeguarding training at DSL level, and knowledge of French and/or Arabic would also be beneficial.
