We are excited to be accepting applications for the role of Deputy Head Pastoral. This position will start in September 2025. The Deputy Head Pastoral role involves supporting the Executive Principal and the Senior Leadership Team in all aspects of their role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Foster positive relationships with students, staff, and parents, promoting open communication based on respect and the school’s values.
- Ensure good discipline across the school, support students individually and in groups, and work with student councils and prefects to promote positive behaviour management and high standards.
- Lead the attendance tracking system, ensuring accurate records in line with the school policy.
- Collaborate with the Deputy Head Academic and Heads of Department to evaluate student progress at both cohort and individual levels, using data to enhance student development.
- Maintain communication with parents/families, promoting community values and resolving conflicts where needed.
- Assist in the coordination of staff induction and provide opportunities for their input into the school program.
- Work with the Admissions office and Seniors Headteacher to coordinate the onboarding process for new students.
- Organise induction for new students and their parents, working with the Head of Year to set out the yearly programme.
- Coordinate parent-teacher conferences and other parental liaison sessions with the relevant Head of Year.
- Chair pastoral team meetings, collaborating with the Deputy Head Academic and Heads of Section to ensure a rich pastoral programme.
- Collaborate with Heads of Section to develop a vibrant Inter-House programme of events and competitions.
- Ensure students are well-prepared for transitions (e.g., iGCSE/Post 16 choices, University guidance) in collaboration with the Head of Sixth Form and University Guidance Counsellor.
- Keep parents, staff, and students informed about key initiatives and issues relevant to specific year groups.
- Lead and attend meetings as required by the strategic focus of the role.
- Develop links with parents, outside agencies, and organisations as needed.
Student Learning:
- Serve as a model of excellence in the classroom, inspiring and motivating staff.
- Monitor teaching and learning quality through regular learning walks.
- Lead the evaluation of pastoral care on a half-termly basis for each year group.
- Collaborate with Heads of Section and others to maintain high standards in teaching and learning throughout the school.
Other Responsibilities:
- Work with the Leadership Team to support, challenge, and develop all staff for continuous improvement, including personal professional development.
- Lead the performance management, training, and induction of staff.
- Assist the EP in deploying resources effectively to meet specific objectives in line with the school’s plan and financial context.
- Contribute to the Strategic Development Plan, analysing the school’s future needs and opportunities for growth in the local and international context.
- Demonstrate high standards of integrity, professionalism, and loyalty.
- Publicly support decisions made by the Seniors Headteacher and Leadership Team.
- Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of the Senior School.
- Support the EP and Leadership Team in accounting for the efficiency and effectiveness of the school to stakeholders.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- A relevant degree, PGCE, B.Ed., or equivalent, in the subject or age group you apply to teach.
- Minimum of 2 years’ teaching experience in the UK, including teaching the British curriculum, and 3 years’ international teaching experience.
- Demonstrated experience in pastoral roles within schools, with a focus on student welfare, behaviour management, and community building.
- Confident in the use of IT in teaching, with a strong understanding of educational technologies.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
- Experience working with educational platforms and apps for learning is preferred.
