ROLE SUMMARY:
To adopt a holistic view to students in their care, promoting the general progress and well-being of individuals and of any class or group assigned to them. To create a positive learning environment and motivate students to achieve their full potential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the quality of teaching, learning and pastoral care across the Junior Prep phase.
- Coach, mentor and develop staff; facilitate targeted CPD aligned to improvement priorities.
- Oversee curriculum planning, assessment cycles, moderation and statutory/reporting timelines.
- Use attainment/progress data to drive intervention, enrichment and continuous improvement.
- Model high-impact classroom practice and a calm, consistent behaviour culture.
- Strengthen parent partnership through timely, transparent communication (meetings, reports, updates).
- Manage phase operations (timetables, cover/locum coordination, routines, compliance and safeguarding).
- Coordinate/co-lead co-curricular programmes and key JP events.
- Support recruitment/induction and performance development; deputise for senior leaders when needed.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- SACE registration (essential).
- Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., B.Ed/PGCE); formal leadership training/qualification advantageous.
- Minimum 5 years’ successful teaching experience, plus minimum 2 years in a formal leadership role (e.g., grade/phase head, subject lead).
- Deep curriculum and assessment literacy; confident with data-informed decision-making.
- Experience with IEB or international curricula (advantageous).
- Outstanding communication, organisation and stakeholder management (staff and parents).
- Solutions-focused, resilient, values-driven; unwavering commitment to safeguarding.
- Appropriate right to work in South Africa.
