ROLE SUMMARY:

Balboa Academy provides a U.S. standards-based curriculum in which English is our language of instruction. Our comprehensive and engaging educational program is dedicated to fostering innovative, intellectual growth. We honor individual differences and diversity while focusing on the development of the whole child. Our nurturing community inspires students to become responsible global citizens with integrity and compassion.

 

Balboa Academy is located in the City of Knowledge, Ciudad del Saber, Clayton, Panama City, Republic of Panama.  The school is comprised of four air-conditioned buildings, one each for our Pre-school/High School, Elementary School, and Middle School. The fourth building is our Athletics Building which includes our gymnasium, Physical Education facilities, and Dragon’s Den. Additionally, our campus has athletic fields and recreational areas with playground equipment. We have over 80 classrooms and our campus includes media centers, computer labs, science labs, and multipurpose rooms.

 

In addition to our facilities, we also have access to the Kiwanis Sports Complex which includes baseball, football, and soccer fields, tennis courts, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a gymnasium, an auditorium, and physical fitness areas adjacent to our campus.

 

The primary teacher plays a crucial role in shaping the educational foundation of young learners. Responsible for creating a supportive and stimulating learning environment, the primary teacher facilitates the holistic development of students in accordance with the school's curriculum and educational objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Curriculum Implementation: Primary Teachers are responsible for implementing the prescribed curriculum or educational standards set by the school. This involves planning and delivering lessons that align with curriculum objectives and standards, ensuring that students are meeting the required learning outcomes.

Differentiated Instruction: Primary Teachers recognize that students have diverse learning needs, styles, and abilities. They adapt their teaching strategies and instructional methods to cater to the individual needs of students, providing additional support or challenges as necessary to ensure all students can succeed.

Classroom Management: Maintaining a positive and orderly classroom environment is essential for effective teaching and learning. Primary Teachers establish and enforce classroom rules and expectations, manage student behavior, and address disciplinary issues promptly and constructively.

Parental and Stakeholder Communication: Primary Teachers communicate regularly with parents or guardians to provide updates on student progress, discuss academic or behavioral concerns, and solicit feedback. They may also collaborate with other educational professionals, such as special education teachers or counselors, to support students' holistic development.

Professional Development: Continuing professional development is crucial for Primary Teachers to stay updated on best practices in teaching, educational trends, and curriculum changes. They may participate in workshops, conferences, or training sessions to enhance their teaching skills and knowledge

Cultural Sensitivity and Inclusivity: Primary Teachers create a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment that celebrates diversity and respects students' cultural backgrounds, languages, and identities. They incorporate multicultural perspectives into their teaching and foster mutual respect and understanding among students.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

Bachelor of Education (Primary)

Course work must include methods of teaching reading, math, language arts, and science.

Prior experience teaching primary-level students

Strong understanding of child development and pedagogical principles

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners

Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment

Proficiency in educational technology and digital learning resources
