ROLE SUMMARY:

As part of our commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment, we are seeking a compassionate and proactive Teaching Assistant to work one-on-one with a primary school student with autism, enrolled in the CP4 pathway.

 

This role is offered on a freelance regime, and working hours will vary depending on demand and the specific needs of the student and school. It is a flexible opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting the student’s academic, social, and emotional development while collaborating closely with a dynamic and dedicated team of educators and support staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Support

  • Work closely with the classroom teacher to implement lesson plans tailored to the student’s needs.
  • Provide individualized academic assistance, adapting materials and instructions to align with the student’s learning style and abilities.
  • Utilize tools such as visual aids, sensory resources, and assistive technology to enhance learning experiences.
  • Monitor and document the student’s progress, contributing to the achievement of Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals.

Behavioral and Emotional Guidance

  • Build a trusting and supportive relationship with the student to foster engagement and well-being.
  • Implement behavior management strategies as outlined in the student’s Behavior Support Plan (BSP).
  • Recognize signs of sensory overload or distress and apply appropriate interventions to support self-regulation.
  • Encourage positive interactions and the development of social-emotional skills.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Liaise with the classroom teacher, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), therapists, and parents to ensure a consistent and holistic approach to the student’s support.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, team meetings, and IEP reviews to share insights and updates on progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of the student’s achievements, challenges, and ongoing needs.

Promoting Inclusion

  • Facilitate the student’s active participation in group activities, encouraging peer interactions and inclusion in classroom and playground settings.
  • Promote independence while providing necessary guidance to build the student’s confidence and autonomy.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Proven experience working with children with autism or other special educational needs.
  • Strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and its impact on learning, behavior, and social interactions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and adaptability to support diverse needs in a dynamic educational environment.
  • A commitment to fostering inclusion and promoting the holistic development of all learners.
