ROLE SUMMARY:
St. Peter's International School is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and qualified Portuguese as a 1st Language Teacher. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, engaging lessons to students who speak Portuguese as their native language. You will play a pivotal role in fostering a deep appreciation for Portuguese literature, grammar, and culture, while preparing students for academic excellence in a dynamic international environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching & Learning: Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality Portuguese lessons tailored to native speakers, ensuring alignment with academic standards and curriculum goals.
- Student Assessment: Assess, monitor, and record the progress of students; provide constructive feedback to support their linguistic and academic growth.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that encourages active participation and mutual respect.
- Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the languages department to develop resources, schemes of work, and innovative pedagogical strategies.
- School Community: Actively participate in staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school-wide events or extracurricular activities.
- Pastoral Care: Support the pastoral and emotional well-being of students, acting as a mentor and role model.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Education: A university degree in Portuguese Studies, Modern Languages, Education, or a related field, along with a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., Habilitação Profissional para a Docência).
- Experience: Proven experience teaching Portuguese as a First Language/Native Language, ideally within an international school environment.
- Language Proficiency: Native or near-native fluency in Portuguese; a strong working knowledge of English is highly desirable to communicate within our multicultural staff.
- Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong classroom management, and proficiency in integrating educational technology into teaching.
