Portuguese Teacher

ROLE SUMMARY:

St. Peter's International School is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and qualified Portuguese Teacher. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the Portuguese Language, fostering language proficiency, and instilling a love for Portuguese literature and culture. The ideal profile must seamlessly integrate active learning methodologies, closely monitor academic progress, and engage dynamically with our multicultural school community to uphold the high educational standards of the Inspired Education group.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lesson Delivery & Planning: Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging Portuguese lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum guidelines (National Curriculum and/or international programs like Cambridge/IB).
• Differentiated Teaching: Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the diverse needs of a multicultural student body with varying language proficiency levels.
• Assessment & Monitoring: Systematically assess, record, and track student progress, providing constructive feedback to foster critical thinking and growth.
• Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment focused on academic excellence.
• Educational Innovation: Integrate digital tools (ICT) and inquiry-based learning approaches to make lessons interactive and relevant.
• Pastoral & School Life: Actively participate in tutoring duties, pedagogical councils, department meetings, and extracurricular activities or school clubs.
• Parent Communication: Ensure clear, professional, and regular communication with parents and guardians regarding their child’s academic and social development.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• Academic Background: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Portuguese Studies, Modern Languages and Literatures, or Education/Teaching of Portuguese.
• Professional Qualification: Completed teaching qualification (Professionalization) valid for teaching in Portugal.
• Experience: Prior teaching experience, preferably within private schools or international/bilingual school environments. Knowledge of the Portuguese Ministry of Education programs is required; familiarity with Cambridge or IB programs is highly valued.
• Language Skills: Native or near-native fluency in Portuguese. Proficient command of English is highly recommended given the school's international and multicultural environment.
• Core Competencies: Strong communication skills, emotional intelligence, an excellent collaborative spirit, and the flexibility to adapt to different student age groups.
