KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Chinese Language Teacher to join our secondary school faculty. The successful candidate will teach across a range of proficiency levels—both first-language and additional-language learners—delivering lessons that inspire a love of language, literature, and cultural understanding.
- Teach Chinese language and literature to both native and non-native speakers across different age and proficiency levels.
- Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons that promote critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills.
- Introduce students to a range of authentic texts and media that reflect diverse perspectives, cultural traditions, and global issues.
- Develop students’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in a progressive and supportive learning environment.
- Create opportunities for students to explore identity, culture, and global citizenship through meaningful use of language.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, including collaborative tasks, discussion, and technology-enhanced learning.
- Design formative and summative assessments that inform instruction and support student progress.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse linguistic and academic needs of students, including support for language acquisition and challenge for advanced learners.
- Foster a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and supportive of student well-being and active participation.
- Participate in school life, including co-curricular activities, pastoral support, and school events.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current in language pedagogy, assessment, and cross-cultural education.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
· A degree in Chinese Language, Literature, Education, or a related field.
· Recognised teaching qualification and experience teaching Chinese as a first and/or additional language at the secondary level.
· Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and strong proficiency in English.
· Passionate about language education and fostering a lifelong appreciation for language, literature, and culture.
· Skilled at designing learning experiences that promote inquiry, self-reflection, and international-mindedness.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
· Organised, reflective, and collaborative in approach, with a growth mindset and commitment to excellence.
· Dedicated to student welfare and safeguarding, creating a safe and nurturing learning environment.
