We are delighted to welcome applications from outstanding, dynamic and suitably experienced individuals for the role of Science Technician, to be in post ready for the School opening in September 2025. This is a rare opportunity for the right candidate to work with the Founding Head of Science to help shape and develop world-class Science provision from the ground up. The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for providing effective and efficient technical support for the teaching of all Science at Wetherby Pembridge. In the School’s early phase, the successful candidate will initially be the sole technician for the department and will need to have expertise in all areas of Science, providing equipment and resources for Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons, whilst also supporting the wider functioning of the department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Practical Lesson Support: Prepare, test, and set up materials, equipment, and chemicals for Science practicals (GCSE/A-level), and support safe in-class experiments and demonstrations.

Resource Management: Maintain stock levels, order supplies, and manage resources including textbooks and paper-based materials.

Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to Health and Safety legislation and COSHH regulations, including disposal of hazardous waste and completion of risk assessments.

Laboratory Maintenance: Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized lab environment, conducting regular checks and managing repairs or servicing of equipment.

Technical Assistance: Advise staff on experimental techniques, equipment use, and safety, and liaise with CLEAPSS or other external bodies as needed.

Support for Teaching & Learning: Familiarize with lesson plans, assist in classroom management, and contribute to the development of practical and teaching resources.

Departmental Administration: Maintain records, assist in department planning, attend meetings, and contribute to the long-term development of Science facilities.

Event & Activity Support: Organize and support Science Club, Open Days, British Science Week, outreach activities, and school trips.

Facility Planning: Participate in planning for new facilities, advising on layout, furniture, and equipment needs as the department grows.

Professional Development & Wider School Role: Engage in training, undertake additional duties as required, and contribute to school life (e.g., co-curricular programmes or form tutoring).
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- An excellent knowledge of Science and genuine interest in and passion for the subject. We appreciate that candidates may have a preference amongst the three sciences, but this role will involve supporting all three sciences in the School’s opening phase
- Previous experience of working in a school laboratory, or experience working in a school environment
- Some experience of setting up a new science department and prep room
- An awareness of relevant Health and Safety regulations within a Science environment including the safe use and storage of chemicals
- The ability to manipulate apparatus and other laboratory equipment
- Sound mathematical skills
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
- High levels of digital literacy
- An ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
- Effective communication skills, both oral and in writing
- The ability to manage their own workload and work collaboratively with the Science team
- A patient approach to working with young people
- A commitment to supporting students in co-curricular Science clubs and with investigative work in class
- The resilience, drive, strength of character and sense of both humour and perspective to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding and ambitious environment
