ROLE SUMMARY:

This exceptional co-educational senior school will open in Olympia, London in September 2025 and will enable students to gain access to Inspired’s global best practices in teaching and learning, as well as global exchange and summer camp programmes, providing students with even more opportunities to transform and broaden their horizons.
The school will build on the academic success and heritage of our Wetherby and Pembridge Hall Pre-Prep and Prep Schools. Wetherby Pembridge will provide a premium, academic senior school pathway for students who are looking for an academically excellent, London co-educational senior school.
The school will feature state-of-the-art learning environments with future-ready classrooms and labs, a library with an eight-floor glass atrium, professional-standard theatre facilities, STEAM Maker Spaces using the latest AI and VR technology, a vibrant Creative and Performing Arts programme and outstanding provision for sport both onsite and nearby.
We are delighted to welcome applications from outstanding, dynamic and suitably experienced individuals for the role of Deputy Head (Academic), to be in post ready for the school opening in September 2025. This is a career-defining opportunity for the right candidate to work with the Founding Headmaster to deliver a world-class school from its inception. The Deputy Head (Academic) will be a key strategic adviser to the Headmaster and will be responsible for the development and oversight of all aspects of the academic life of the school.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deputising for the Headmaster as required
- Responsibility for all aspects of academic provision within the school
- Fostering a culture in which academic excellence is the norm, and where students and staff alike are academically and intellectually curious and aspirational
- Oversight and delivery of a rigorous and highly aspirational academic curriculum
- Developing and maintaining a broad super-curricular programme to ensure that students are routinely engaged well beyond the taught curriculum
- Responsibility for developing annually a suitable academic timetable, and for anticipating future timetabling and staffing needs
- Working alongside the Headmaster on the selection, interviewing and appointment of all academic staff and some operational roles
- Assisting the Admissions Department with the interviewing and selection of students for the school
- Line management of all Heads of Department, including the SENDCo
- Oversight of all student tracking and of ensuring that the resultant data are deployed effectively to enhance teaching and learning
- Leading the school’s approach to teaching and learning, including the effective integration of educational technology
- Oversight of CPD for all academic staff, and the associated budgets
- Responsibility for the administration and conduct of all internal and external examinations, including the preparation and submission of data to external bodies as required
- Oversight of academic reporting through iSAMS
- Leading on ensuring that the school remains inspection-ready at all times
- Maintaining a record of any parental complaints and their resolution, as well as the school’s Low Level Concerns register
- Teaching a reduced timetable allocation in one of the academic subjects offered by the school
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- PGCE, QTS or equivalent with strong academic credentials, including a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university, and the right to work in the UK
- Significant experience of academic leadership in a high-performing independent school environment
- GCSE and A-level teaching experience in a subject offered at Wetherby Pembridge
- Experience of contributing to strategic development and managing change at a whole-school level
- The resilience, drive, strength of character and sense of both humour and perspective to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding and ambitious environment
