ROLE SUMMARY:

Reddam House North Shore is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Visual Arts / Design & Technology Teacher to join our innovative and collaborative school community. This teacher will leverage extensive experience and subject expertise to deliver high-quality instruction primarily to Stage 4 students, with potential for growth in the future. It offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to two growing subject areas within a progressive and academically focused school environment, which strongly values art and design.   
 

As a high-performing educator, the Visual Arts / Design & Technology teacher will bring a strong pedagogical foundation to the classroom to promote academic excellence and intellectual curiosity. This teacher will deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned lessons that inspire their students' love of art and design. In 2026, we will expand our student body from 500 to 850, and in preparation for this exciting growth, we are seeking outstanding educators to join our team in a limited number of newly created positions to start in January.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach Visual Arts and Design & Technology to secondary students, demonstrating exemplary teaching practices and setting a high standard for student engagement and achievement. 
  • Work effectively in a team with Visual Arts and TAS teachers to ensure consistent and high-quality learning experiences. 
  • Engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, aligning with Reddam House’s educational philosophy. 
  • Develop programs of work that adhere to curriculum standards and cater to the diverse learning needs of students, with a focus on maximising student engagement and achievement. 
  • Plan, order, and manage classroom resources and tools effectively to create a safe and conducive learning environment. 
  • Assess students’ abilities, strengths, and areas for improvement, providing individualised support to help them overcome challenges and excel academically. 
  • Evaluate and assess students’ educational progress and abilities, providing timely feedback and detailed reports to students, parents, and school leadership. 
  • Monitor and support students’ emotional and social well-being, addressing any concerns or issues that may arise. 
  • Prepare and administer exams, assignments, and other assessments, marking student work to measure learning outcomes. 
  • Work collaboratively to plan and participate in Reddam House’s Visual Arts retreat program and help organise annual art exhibitions and displays. 
  • Participate in staff meetings, House meetings, assemblies, and professional development days, contributing to the broader school community. 
  • Engage with parents and guardians during parent evenings and open days to discuss student progress and address any concerns. 
  • Organise, attend, and supervise various school activities, including excursions, concerts, fundraising events, camps, sporting events, and presentations. 
  • Undertake professional development to maintain NESA accreditation and stay current with best practices in education. 

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A strong track record in teaching Visual Arts and/or Design & Technology at Stage 4 level, with a comprehensive curriculum knowledge. Experience teaching Stage 5 Visual Arts desirable.  
  • Excellent classroom management skills, with a focus on creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. 
  • Strong assessment and evaluation skills, with the ability to monitor and report on student progress accurately. 
  • Proficient in using educational technologies and creative teaching methods to enhance students’ learning experience and foster their critical and design thinking skills. 
  • Knowledge and experience in contemporary and traditional art practices, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, across artmaking and art history. 
  • Demonstrated ability to teach digital design skills that foster student creativity and build technical competence in contemporary design technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A recognised teaching qualification, such as a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or equivalent, specialising in Visual Arts, Design & Technology or a closely related subject. 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid Working with Children Check. 
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining NESA accreditation. 
  • Provide lunch & playground cover and assist with pick up and drop off duties. 
  • A willingness to attend school events outside regular hours as required (e.g., performances, parent-teacher interviews, etc.).
