ROLE SUMMARY:
The Secondary Science Teacher at Reddam House North Shore plays a pivotal role in guiding students through their science education, ensuring a strong foundation in scientific principles and practices. The Secondary Science Teacher is expected to deliver a high-quality, student-centered education that aligns with Reddam House’s mission of fostering academic excellence and holistic development.
The Secondary Science teacher will assist in curriculum development, ensure the highest teaching standards, and inspire a love of scientific inquiry and problem-solving in students. By creating engaging lesson plans, assessing student progress, and contributing to the broader school community, this teacher ensures that students are empowered to achieve their full potential academically, socially, and personally. This role is central to driving the department’s vision and contributing to the broader educational objectives of Reddam House.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach Science to secondary students in a collaborative, innovative environment, fostering deeper learning through teamwork with fellow Science educators
- Contribute to curriculum design, teaching strategies, and assessment practices aligned with Reddam House’s academic standards.
- Engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, reflecting the school’s educational philosophy.
- Develop inclusive programs that meet curriculum requirements and support diverse learning needs, with a focus on student engagement and achievement.
- Deliver Science lessons across various year levels, modelling exemplary teaching and maintaining high standards.
- Promote scientific literacy and experimental skills through engaging initiatives and school-wide programs.
- Maintain classroom discipline and a respectful learning environment.
- Manage departmental resources, ensuring access to quality teaching materials and lab equipment.
- Prepare and assess exams, assignments, and other learning tasks to evaluate student progress.
- Participate in and supervise school events such as excursions, exhibitions, camps, and sports.
- Attend staff meetings, assemblies, and professional development days, contributing to school-wide initiatives and discussions.
- Support students’ emotional and social well-being, addressing concerns as needed.
- Provide timely feedback and detailed progress reports to students, parents, and school leadership.
- Organise extracurricular Science activities, including clubs, competitions, and enrichment programs.
- Ensure departmental compliance with school policies, safety regulations, and relevant legislation.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Proven experience teaching Science to Years 7–10, with strong student outcomes
- In-depth knowledge of Stage 4 & 5 Science pedagogy and curriculum design
- Effective communicator with strong written and verbal skills for engaging students, parents, and colleagues
- Skilled in using data to inform teaching and improve outcomes
- Organised and led extracurricular Science activities
- Passionate about Science education and inspiring student learning
- Approachable, empathetic, and student-focused
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Adaptable and resilient in dynamic school environments
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Science and a relevant secondary teaching qualification (essential).
- Experience teaching Stage 4 & 5 Science (essential); Stage 6 Physics, Chemistry, or Biology (desirable)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Commitment to maintaining NESA accreditation and ongoing PD.
- Willingness to assist with playground/lunch duties and student pick-up/drop-off.
- Availability for school events outside regular hours (e.g., performances, interviews).
