The Secondary Music Teacher plays a pivotal role in guiding students from Years 7–12 through their musical education. This role involves delivering engaging, high-quality classroom music instruction across Stages 4–6, aligned with the NESA curriculum, while inspiring students to develop as performers, composers and informed listeners.
We are seeking an exceptional Music Teacher with a passion for inspiring young musicians, fostering creativity and delivering outstanding educational outcomes. While this is primarily a classroom teaching position, applicants with experience in championing composition within a secondary music department are particularly encouraged to apply.
This position will commence as a 0.7 FTE appointment from Term 1, 2027, with strong potential to expand to a full-time (1.0 FTE) position as the Music Department continues to grow.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creating Engaging Lessons: Plan and deliver engaging Music lessons that inspire and challenge students while aligning with the NESA syllabus, school policies and assessment requirements. Differentiate learning to ensure every student is challenged, supported and achieves outstanding progress.
- Supporting Student Growth: Teach Music across Stages 4–6, supporting students in developing practical, theoretical and creative musicianship through performance, listening and composition.
- Supporting and Assessing Progress: Assess students’ learning through a range of formative and summative assessment strategies, providing timely and constructive feedback that supports academic growth and musical development.
- Building a Positive Learning Environment: Create a classroom culture where students feel valued, challenged and confident to take creative risks while developing a lifelong appreciation for music.
- Collaborating and Sharing Best Practice: Work collaboratively with colleagues as an active member of the Music Department, contributing to curriculum development, sharing innovative teaching practices and engaging in ongoing professional learning.
- Contributing to School Life: Play an active role in the school’s co-curricular programme and Music Department, supporting concerts, performances, ensembles and other initiatives that enrich students’ musical experiences.
- Collaborating with Parents: Maintain positive and constructive communication with parents, building strong partnerships that support each student’s academic and personal development.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Proven experience teaching Secondary Music with a strong understanding of NESA curriculum requirements.
- Demonstrated experience teaching Stage 4 Music. Experience teaching Stage 5 and Stage 6 Music is highly desirable.
- Experience in student assessment, reporting and curriculum planning.
- Confidence using music technology, notation software and digital learning tools to enhance teaching and learning.
- Experience organising and supporting performances, concerts and other music-related activities.
- Experience teaching composition across a range of musical styles, including both contemporary and Western art music traditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Education (Secondary), Bachelor of Music Education, or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Accreditation with NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Working with Children Check
- Willingness to assist with lunch/playground supervision and student drop-off/pick-up duties.
- Availability to attend school events outside regular hours, including concerts, performances and parent meetings.
