ROLE SUMMARY:
The Teacher Librarian at Reddam House schools plays a vital role in supporting the school's educational goals and mission. This position involves developing and maintaining a comprehensive library collection, providing essential library services, and creating an environment that promotes literacy and a love of reading.
The Teacher Librarian ensures students have access to a wide range of resources, encouraging them to engage with literature in various formats, thereby contributing to their academic and personal development. This role requires a highly organised, self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and administrative skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Foster an environment that encourages and empowers students to read, view, listen, and respond for understanding and enjoyment across various modes.
- Manage library resources, equipment, and budget effectively.
- Develop and maintain library collections to support the educational curriculum and student interests.
- Deliver core library services during desk shifts, including shelving, circulation, addressing reference queries, information literacy instruction, and supervising students.
- Implement and support information literacy initiatives and strategies to enhance students' research skills.
- Develop, implement, and support strategies, programs, events, and activities that promote reading and literacy across the curriculum, fostering a love of literature and lifelong reading habits in students and staff.
- Select a diverse range of literature in print and digital formats that cater to the varied interests, developmental stages, and abilities of students.
- Promote and market library collections and resources to enhance visibility and usage.
- Contribute to a positive, friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming library environment.
- Apply information management principles and systems in line with current best practices.
- Participate in library projects, including providing research and reference assistance, readers' advisory, borrower maintenance, and circulation tasks.
- Collaborate with the Academic Support team to devise and implement the Gifted and Talented Individuals program.
- Help students with research, referencing, and assignments during study periods and supervise them during exams.
- Perform annual stocktake procedures and generate relevant reports.
- Perform additional tasks as required by Reddam’s to support the school's needs and objectives.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining library collections.
- Proficiency in delivering core library services and information literacy instruction.
- Experience in fostering an engaging and supportive environment for reading and literacy.
- Ability to select and promote diverse literature in various formats.
- Strong organisational and information management skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with academic teams and participate in library projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- A relevant degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
- Eligibility for membership in ALIA or an equivalent organisation.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A valid Working with Children Check.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining NESA accreditation.
- Provide lunch & playground cover and assist with pick up and drop off duties.
- A willingness to attend school events outside regular hours as required (e.g., performances, parent-teacher interviews, etc.).
