ROLE SUMMARY:
The Primary Mandarin Teacher at Reddam House is responsible for fostering intellectual, social, physical, and emotional growth through Mandarin language education for primary students. The role includes designing and delivering engaging Mandarin lessons aligned with the curriculum, promoting language acquisition and cultural understanding. This teacher will support students' language development in a way that complements the broader academic and holistic goals of Reddam House, ensuring each child reaches their linguistic potential within a supportive and inclusive environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare daily and long-term lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and objectives, specifically focused on Mandarin language acquisition and cultural education
- Deliver interactive and comprehensive Mandarin instruction, integrating language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) with cultural components to provide a well-rounded linguistic foundation.
- Arrange and manage classroom resources to create an immersive Mandarin learning environment that supports language engagement.
- Use creative methods such as storytelling, music, arts, games, and technology to enhance students’ interest and proficiency in Mandarin.
- Maintain a structured yet dynamic classroom atmosphere that encourages linguistic practice and cultural appreciation.
- Set up Mandarin-specific classroom activities and ensure the space is conducive to learning.
- Supervise students during language activities and breaks, ensuring their safety and reinforcing Mandarin usage where possible.
- Assess and evaluate students' Mandarin language progress, providing constructive feedback to students, parents, and administrators.
- Monitor students' emotional and social well-being, addressing challenges they may face in language acquisition and providing encouragement.
- Prepare and administer language assessments, marking student work and recording progress in Mandarin.
- Participate in school-wide activities, including assemblies, cultural events, and staff meetings, contributing Mandarin expertise.
- Engage with parents and guardians to discuss language development, address concerns, and support Mandarin learning at home.
- Organise and supervise Mandarin-related school events, such as cultural workshops, language immersion activities, and field trips.
- Participate in professional development to maintain NESA accreditation and stay current with Mandarin language teaching methodologies.
- May be required to assume a pastoral role when needed, providing support to students in their general well-being and school engagement.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Experienced in teaching Mandarin at the primary level, with strong knowledge of language acquisition and curriculum
- Skilled in engaging students with diverse learning needs and maintaining effective classroom management.
- Proficient in assessing language progress and accurately reporting student development.
- Utilises creative teaching strategies and educational technology to enhance learning outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- A recognised teaching qualification with specialisation in Mandarin, or equivalent
- NESA accreditation and relevant certification in Mandarin language teaching
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A valid Working with Children Check.
- Provide lunch & playground cover and assist with pick up & drop off duties.
- Ongoing commitment to professional development and maintaining NESA accreditation. Willingness to attend school events outside regular hours as required (e.g., performances, parent-teacher interviews, etc.).
