ROLE SUMMARY:
A French Teacher at Reddam House is responsible for teaching French as a second language to primary students and will also teach a limited number of Year 7 classes . This role involves contributing to curriculum development, promoting high teaching standards, and fostering a passion for language learning among students.
You will engage students in a variety of subject areas, utilising creative and effective teaching methods that cater to diverse learning needs. The role contributes significantly to the school’s mission of providing an innovative, holistic, and student-centred education, ensuring that each child reaches their full potential. In 2026, we will expand our student body from 500 to 850, and in preparation for this exciting growth, we are seeking outstanding educators to join our team in a limited number of newly created positions to start in January.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contribute to curriculum design, teaching strategies, and assessment practices, ensuring they meet the academic standards of Reddam House.
- Foster collaboration and a commitment to continuous improvement in language teaching.
- Teach French classes across various year levels, demonstrating exemplary teaching practices and setting a high standard for student engagement and achievement in language learning.
- Ensure that the French curriculum meets the requirements of the Australian Curriculum for French as a second language, promoting student-centred learning and language acquisition.
- Develop and implement initiatives to encourage students' interest in the French language and culture, promoting literacy and communication skills.
- Collaborate with other teachers and department heads to integrate cross-curricular approaches, contributing to the school’s overall educational strategy.
- Organise and oversee French-related extracurricular activities, such as language clubs, cultural events, and immersion programs, to deepen students' engagement with the language.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and the broader school community regarding the French curriculum and student progress in language learning.
- Ensure the French Department complies with all school policies, health and safety regulations, and relevant educational legislation.
- May be required to assume the role of Year Coordinator and provide pastoral care for the relevant year group students from time to time, based on the needs of the school.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Strong understanding of language acquisition theories and pedagogical practices for teaching French to non-native speakers.
- Experience in curriculum implementation, tailored to meet the needs of students learning French as a second language.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, parents, and external stakeholders.
- Experience in using data to inform teaching practices and improve student learning outcomes.
- Experience in organising and leading extracurricular language-related activities, such as cultural exchanges, excursions, and language competitions.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues across departments and contribute to whole-school initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS
- A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent) is required.

- Ongoing professional development in the field of French language teaching and education
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- A valid Working with Children Check.
- Provide lunch & playground cover and assist with pick up & drop off duties.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and training as required.
- Availability to contribute to extracurricular activities and school events beyond regular teaching hours.
