Music Tutor

ROLE SUMMARY:

Casual Music Tutors at Reddam House deliver exceptional individual tuition and ensemble direction across Primary and High School, inspiring students to achieve artistic excellence and personal growth. Working within a highly collaborative and dynamic Music Department, the role supports a flourishing performance culture and contributes to the ongoing success of one of Australia’s leading independent school music programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

●    Deliver high-quality, specialist instrumental or vocal tuition tailored to the needs and abilities of each student
●    Direct and rehearse music ensembles to a high performance standard
●    Differentiate teaching strategies to support students of varying skill levels, learning styles, and cultural/linguistic backgrounds
●    Set and communicate clear practice expectations, technical goals, and performance standards to students and families
●    Prepare students for internal and external performances, exams, auditions, and competitions as required
●    Maintain accurate attendance records, progress notes, and timely communication with parents/guardians
●    Contribute to the safe care, use, and storage of school-owned instruments and equipment; manage inventory needs or repairs promptly
●    Stay current with developments in music pedagogy, technology, and performance practice to enhance teaching and learning
●    Participate in department meetings, planning, and professional learning opportunities as required
●    Support the music program by attending and assisting with concerts, recitals, productions, and other school events outside regular hours when requested

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

●    Proven expertise and high-level performance ability on one or more instruments
●    Demonstrated success in teaching individual students and directing ensembles across a range of abilities and ages
●    Strong understanding of contemporary and traditional music pedagogy, including differentiation and inclusive teaching strategies
●    Effective classroom and rehearsal management skills to create safe and productive learning environments
●    Excellent organisational skills, including timetabling, record keeping, and meeting administrative expectations
●    Confidence in communicating with students, parents, and colleagues in a professional and timely manner
●    Ability to use technology to support learning

QUALIFICATIONS 

●    A recognised music qualification, such as a Bachelor of Music (Performance), Bachelor of Music Education, or equivalent professional experience
●    Demonstrated high-level performance experience and professional expertise on one or more instruments

●    Commitment to ongoing professional development
