ROLE SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Hand at Reddam House is responsible for ensuring the school's buildings, grounds, and equipment are maintained to a high standard, creating a safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing environment for staff, students, and visitors.
The role supports the school's mission by providing general operational support as a whole and overseeing the upkeep of the facilities, performing general handyman tasks as well as carrying out a range of function setups to ensure that the campus is a functional and inviting place conducive to an efficient learning environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Traffic Control (Daily)
- Manage vehicle and pedestrian flow during school drop-off and pick-up times (7:45am – 9:00am & 2:40pm – 3:45pm).
- Ensure safe crossing for students and families.
- Coordinate with school staff to maintain orderly traffic movement on campus.
Event Support and Technology Setup
- Assist with the setup of school functions such as assemblies, presentations, and exams.
- Support basic event technology setup (e.g., microphones, projectors, screens, laptops).
- Perform pre-event checks to ensure equipment is functional and ready.
Operational Checks
- Conduct daily walkthroughs to identify and resolve potential issues affecting school operations (e.g., lighting, signage, access points, fire egress points).
- Ensure all facilities are ready for use at the start of each day.
Other aspects of the role will include:
- Grounds Maintenance - Maintain the school grounds to a high standard, including accurate sports line marking and upkeep of groundskeeping machinery.
- Building Maintenance - Perform general building repairs and maintenance, promptly addressing safety and hygiene issues and supporting inspections.
- School Equipment, Furniture, and Fittings - Oversee the upkeep, storage, delivery, and relocation of school equipment and furniture as needed.
- Security and Safety - Monitor and report safety risks while assisting with access control and building security checks.
- General - Keep detailed maintenance records, collaborate effectively with staff, and support school events with timely setups.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience in a maintenance, handyman, or groundskeeping role, preferably within an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, especially in relation to facilities management.
- Experience using a range of machinery and tools for gardening, building maintenance, and repairs.
- Familiarity with facilities management software and record-keeping practices.
- Good communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with contractors and school personnel.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
- Traffic control qualification and experience or willingness to obtain one.
- Previous experience with AV systems highly desirable.
