ROLE SUMMARY:

The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient transportation of students, staff and school-related materials between Reddam House campuses, school bus routes and approved destinations.

The role ensures a high standard of student safety and wellbeing through the professional operation of school vehicles, adherence to all road safety and transport regulations, and the proactive maintenance, cleanliness and roadworthiness of the school bus fleet. The Bus Driver serves as a positive representative of the school, demonstrating professionalism, integrity and a strong commitment to providing a safe and supportive transport service for the Reddam House community.

This is a permanent role, based at Reddam House North Shore in North Sydney.  The role is a Monday to Friday position - with hours ranging from / between 6:30am - 5pm - School TERM TIME ONLY

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely transport students and staff on daily school routes, excursions, events and other scheduled activities, including occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Ensure the safety, wellbeing and appropriate supervision of students while in transit, maintaining duty of care, behaviour management and child safeguarding requirements.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections and basic maintenance, including monitoring fuel, oil, water levels and tyre pressures, and reporting mechanical issues promptly.
  • Maintain the bus in a clean, safe and presentable condition through regular interior and exterior cleaning and upkeep.
  • Coordinate and monitor vehicle registrations, inspections and servicing to ensure compliance and minimise operational disruption.
  • Transport school equipment, materials and correspondence between campuses and other locations as required.Comply with all road transport legislation, 
  • NSW driving regulations, school policies and workplace safety requirements, including the use of PPE where necessary.
  • Uphold professional standards through effective communication, confidentiality, accountability, appropriate professional boundaries with students and families, and timely reporting of incidents, delays or emergencies.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Demonstrated safe and compliant bus driving skills, with strong knowledge of road safety, NSW transport regulations and defensive driving practices.
  • Ability to conduct vehicle inspections, basic maintenance checks and report repairs or safety concerns promptly.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, including coordinating schedules and vehicle compliance requirements.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage professionally with students, parents, staff and leadership.
  • Calm and responsive under pressure, able to manage emergencies, incidents and unexpected situations appropriately
  • Sound understanding of child safeguarding, student supervision and duty of care responsibilities.
  • Previous experience driving buses, coaches or passenger transport vehicles, ideally within a school environment.
  • Reliable, professional and adaptable team player, committed to student safety and wellbeing.
  • A current NSW MR Driver Licence, Bus Driver Authority and a strong safe driving record.
