ROLE SUMMARY:
Northfields International School is a premier independent co-educational day school in Mauritius that provides an English-medium education for over 1200 boys and girls aged between 18 months and 18 years. The Northfields campus in Labourdonnais is situated on owned freehold property and incorporates numerous subject classrooms, dedicated science labs, computer suites, art studios, a design and Special Education Needs (SEN) and English as an Additional Language (EAL) support room. Northfields offers internationally recognised educational programmes and qualifications for Cambridge and the International Baccalaureate. The curriculum progression in the school begins with Regio Emelia Pre-Nursery, followed by the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) at NIPS. Students from the Primary School may progress to Secondary School at NIHS, where they follow the 5-year Cambridge curriculum in Years 7-11, culminating with the Cambridge IGCSE examination at the end of Year 11. Students in Sixth Form then follow the 2-year IB Diploma Programme (DP) or Cambridge A level.
Apart from being an authorised IB World School, the quality of Northfields is further bolstered through the school’s accreditation with the Council of International Schools (CIS) and membership with the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA). Northfields is registered and licensed in Mauritius with the Ministry of Gender Equality & Welfare for our Pre-Nursery, with the Early Childhood Care and Education Authority (ECCEA) and the Ministry of Education and Human Resources for the primary school and the Private Secondary Education Authority (PSEA) for our Secondary School.
We are currently recruiting a Network and System Administrator to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the school’s network infrastructure, managing system performance, supporting end-users, and ensuring the security and reliability of all IT operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and manage staff accounts across school systems, ensuring timely deactivation for leavers and regular audits of active accounts.
- Provide frontline IT support to staff, students, and parents, including assistance with passwords, network access, and email accounts.
- Support users on school software and deliver training on new or updated systems.
- Monitor system performance through logs, reports, and alerts, taking proactive action to prevent issues or downtime.
- Respond to and mitigate unexpected incidents such as system outages, cyber threats, or virus attacks.
- Maintain network integrity by applying updates, enforcing security protocols, and monitoring activity to safeguard data.
- Ensure all hardware and software (including Office 365 and other applications) are up to date, properly licensed, and fully operational.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of IT assets, including hardware, software, licences, and warranties, ensuring compliance.
- Support procurement of IT equipment by researching solutions, making recommendations, and overseeing installation and user training.
- Perform and document data backups, VM replications, restorations, and disaster recovery processes, including regular testing.
- Manage and update the school website, including content and layout changes.
- Develop and implement IT policies and procedures to ensure consistent and compliant system use.
- Maintain servers by applying updates, monitoring performance, and reviewing system logs.
- Manage and configure CCTV and access control systems.
- Provide audio-visual support for school events across campuses.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- A degree/ Advance Diploma in Information Technology or Computer Science;
- At least 3 years of experience in a similar position, education sector experience is desirable
Standby Requirement
- You may be required to work beyond normal hours and remain on call until 20:00 from Monday to Saturday. You must also monitor critical alerts from servers, server room temperature controls, and UPS systems, and take action when required.
Knowledge
- Experience in managing Active Directory and Microsoft 365
- Knowledge of networks and network equipment including firewalls
- Knowledge of server management and security principles
- Ability to work independently and to successfully manage multiple priorities
- Ability to troubleshoot and fix user problems with hardware and software
