Deputy Head Pastoral

ROLE SUMMARY:

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join an outstanding and ambitious founding team at King's College School, The Bahamas. The school continues to grow following its opening in August 2022. It is the only school in the region that is part of a leading global group of premium schools. For this 2026/27 academic year, the school welcomed over 330 students from Pre-Reception to Year 10. An additional year group will be added every year until Year 13.

 
The school is housed in a newly built 10-acre campus of architectural significance. It offers the highest quality educational facilities, ensuring that students benefit from a learning environment designed for how students learn in the modern day. Facilities include light and airy classrooms, state-of-the-art science labs, a multipurpose hall, a 25-meter swimming pool, football pitches, tennis courts, padel courts, dance, drama, and art studios, an adventure park playground, and plenty of green spaces and shaded areas for students to enjoy. As well as this, our premium beach front boarding house has just opened its doors to students. For the 2026/27 academic year, the school welcomed over 450 students from Pre-Reception to Year 11, with a Sixth Form due to open next year.

This is a significant opportunity for the right candidate to work with the Founding Principal to take the school to the next stage of its development, as it seeks to become a beacon of excellence within the Inspired Education Group.

The Deputy Head (Pastoral), to be in post from August 2027, is responsible for safeguarding and the wellbeing programme across the whole school, and for leading the pastoral care, behaviour, and wellbeing provision for students in Years 7 to 13.

This role is central to ensuring that students experience a safe, structured, and nurturing environment during a critical stage of adolescent development. The Deputy Head (Pastoral) combines strategic leadership with a strong daily presence, supporting students as they develop independence, resilience, and emotional maturity while navigating increasing academic expectations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Lead safeguarding and the whole-school wellbeing programme in collaboration with the Head of Junior School, Phase Leaders (including the Head of Sixth Form), and the Founding Principal.

· Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead for the whole school, ensuring concerns are recognised, recorded, escalated, and managed appropriately.

· Take responsibility for the pastoral strands of the School Development Plan.

· As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, shape the pastoral framework and key pastoral policies, ensuring they reflect the school’s values and support a positive, inclusive culture.

· Work closely with counsellors, psychologists, and learning support on student wellbeing and early intervention.

· Lead pastoral care, wellbeing, and behaviour across Years 7 to 13, working closely with students, staff, and families to ensure appropriate support and follow-up.

· Line manage the Phase Leaders for Years 7 to 9 and Years 10 to 11, and chair pastoral meetings across the Senior School, ensuring high-quality, consistent practice.

· Promote high standards of behaviour, attendance, and conduct, ensuring rewards and sanctions are applied fairly and consistently.

· Monitor pastoral, behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing data to identify trends, support students of concern, and inform interventions.

· Oversee the Form Time programme and tutor system, ensuring students receive strong guidance, support, and opportunities for personal development.

· Lead assemblies, pastoral sessions, and key student events, including Graduation, and support student leadership.

· Build strong relationships with parents through clear, supportive communication and pastoral events.

· Contribute to staff training, duty rotas, health and safety procedures, and the wider life of the school.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

· Significant pastoral leadership experience in a secondary or international school context

· A strong understanding of adolescent development

· Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

· A calm, authoritative, and relational leadership style

· Strong safeguarding knowledge and practice

· The ability to balance empathy with clear expectations and boundaries

· Strong organisational and leadership skills

· A commitment to inclusive, student-centred education

The Deputy Head (Pastoral) reports directly to the Founding Principal and will receive 50% timetable relief to complete their role.
