ROLE SUMMARY:

 

The University Counsellor is responsible for guiding and supporting senior school students in their academic and career planning, ensuring they make informed decisions about their university applications and future career pathways. The counsellor will foster strong relationships with students, parents, and faculty, while staying informed about evolving trends in higher education and admissions processes. Primarily office-based, with occasional travel for professional development or university visits. Requires flexibility to meet with students and families outside regular school hours as needed. 

This is a part-time role, 80%.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Student Guidance and Support 

  • Provide one-on-one and group counselling sessions to help students explore career interests, set academic goals, and identify suitable university programs. 
  • Assist students with developing personalized university application plans, including timelines for standardized tests, essays, and other requirements. 
  • Guide students in preparing application materials, such as resumes, personal statements, and recommendation letters. 

University Applications and Admissions 

  • Conduct workshops and seminars on university application processes, financial aid, scholarships, and entrance exams. 
  • Keep students and parents informed about application deadlines, admission criteria, and changes in university policies. 
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of global university systems, including but not limited to the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and European institutions. 

Collaboration and Communication 

  • Coordinate with faculty to provide comprehensive support for students’ academic and extracurricular achievements. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with university representatives to facilitate campus visits, presentations, and application insights. 
  • Communicate effectively with parents, keeping them involved and informed about their child’s university planning process. 

Data Management and Reporting 

  • Track and analyze university application trends, acceptance rates, and student outcomes to improve guidance strategies. 
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide reports to administration as required. 
  • Manage and oversee college fairs, university visits, and other related events. 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in student counselling or academic advising, preferably in an international school or university setting. 
  • Skills and Competencies 
  • In-depth understanding of university admissions processes and educational pathways globally. 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. 
  • Ability to build rapport with diverse groups, including students, parents, and faculty. 
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills. 
  • Proficiency in using counselling and student management software, such as Unifrog.
