ROLE SUMMARY:

 

The school librarian is responsible for the management, development, promotion and evaluation of effective learning resources and information services which support learning and teaching across the whole school. The librarian is also a key member of school staff, serving as a school Tutor as well as contributing to the academic life of school through the delivery of lessons on research and literacy skills, and supporting the IB DP Extended Essay program.

Experience of leading a library and working in a school environment with children is essential.

This role is full-time, term-time only and benefits from full school holidays.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Leadership of library

  • Plan, implement and evaluate the library’s strategic plan, policies, and services that support teaching and learning across the whole school age range
  • Create a positive, warm, and welcoming atmosphere so that the library is the heart of the school
  • Promote reading, researching, and use of library space and resources through displays, events, and programs
  • Develop library collection of print and electronic resources in consultation with Heads of Faculty
  • Select, order, process, and catalog new stock
  • Administer Follett Destiny library management system
  • Develop, maintain, and administer library website
  • Submit annual budget proposal and administer library budget

 

Curriculum involvement

  • Coordinate and participate in the planning and implementation of an information skills curriculum which includes appreciation of resources, information retrieval, and utilisation of resources
  • Delivery library lessons in Junior School to promote a love of learning
  • Support the role of academic research of Extended Essay, Internal Assessments, Personal Projects, and project-based learning
  • Be a Tutor, providing pastoral and academic guidance to a small tutor group of students
