ROLE SUMMARY:

St George’s International School is seeking a dynamic and experienced Peripatetic Chinese Teacher to deliver high-quality Chinese language and literature lessons to students aged 10-18. The successful candidate will work across different levels, teaching Chinese as a first language (Literature) and Chinese as a foreign language, including IB and IGCSE curricula. This role requires flexibility, cultural awareness, and a passion for fostering a deep appreciation of the Chinese language and culture in an international school setting. This is an hourly, part-time job contract

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated Chinese language lessons for students at various proficiency levels.
•    Teach Chinese as a first language (including Literature) and Chinese as a foreign language at IGCSE and IB levels.
•    Prepare students for IGCSE, IB (Language A & B), and other external examinations, ensuring strong academic outcomes.
•    Foster an inclusive learning environment that supports both native and non-native Chinese speakers.
•    Assess students’ progress, provide constructive feedback, and communicate effectively with parents and school staff.
•    Develop creative teaching materials and strategies to enhance language acquisition.
•    Promote intercultural understanding by integrating Chinese culture, literature, and history into lessons.
•    Work collaboratively with other language teachers and departments to support students’ holistic learning experiences.
•    Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in Chinese language education and curriculum development.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

•    A degree in Chinese Language, Chinese Literature, Education, or a related field.
•    Teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, IB/IGCSE certification, or equivalent).
•    Proven experience teaching Chinese at IGCSE and IB levels, including both Language A (Literature) and Language B (Foreign Language).
•    Experience working with students of diverse linguistic backgrounds in an international school environment.
•    Ability to differentiate instruction for learners at different proficiency levels.
•    Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills.
•    Passion for teaching and inspiring students to develop their language skills.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Mandarin Chinese and English.
•    Experience with bilingual or multilingual learners.
•    Familiarity with inquiry-based learning approaches (e.g., IB pedagogy).
•    Ability to incorporate technology into language teaching.
•    Experience in developing and reviewing curriculum materials for international education.
