ROLE SUMMARY:

St. Louis School, Colonna Campus is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher Assistant to support teaching and learning across the school. Working under the guidance of the Class Teacher and School Leadership Team, the successful candidate will contribute to a positive, safe and engaging learning environment, helping students to access the curriculum, develop independence, and thrive both academically and socially. The Teacher Assistant plays a key role in supporting classroom organisation, behaviour, learning activities and student wellbeing, while upholding the school’s ethos and commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the Class Teacher in delivering well-planned and engaging lessons by preparing resources, setting up learning spaces and assisting students during activities.
  • Help maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive classroom environment that enables all students to learn effectively.
  • Work with individuals and small groups of students to support learning, using strategies agreed with the Class Teacher to help pupils achieve their learning targets.
  • Monitor and record students’ responses to learning activities, providing regular feedback to teachers on progress, achievements and any concerns.
  • Support positive behaviour by encouraging responsibility, dealing with minor incidents in line with school policy and promoting respectful conduct.
  • Assist with the preparation, organisation and maintenance of classroom materials and resources, including photocopying, laminating, filing and setting up displays of students’ work.
  • Provide supervision and care for students during playtimes, break times, lunch times, trips and school activities, and accompany pupils to the infirmary when needed. Support children with personal and practical needs where required, including changing for swimming activities.
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues, contributing to strong home–school communication. 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A caring and positive professional with a genuine interest in supporting children’s learning and development.
  • Some understanding of classroom practice and effective teaching and learning strategies.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work closely with teachers, students and families.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, with the flexibility to support a wide range of classroom and school activities.
