ROLE SUMMARY:

 

We are seeking an outstanding teacher of Science to deliver the Middle school science programme at
our Caviglia campus in the south of Milan.

 

We are a school known both for our high academic standards and our warm, friendly community. Our
students follow the English National Curriculum for Key Stage 3 Science, preparing them for IGCSE and
ultimately the IBDP which many of them will follow in our sister High School. As our lead teacher for
science you will deliver engaging practical and theoretical lessons in general science to include elements
of physics, biology and chemistry for Years 7,8 and 9.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of science in the Middle School
  • Plan and teach engaging, ambitious lessons, with a focus on both skills and subject knowledge
  • Ensure that lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of individual students including additional challenge or support as required
  • Track and monitor student progress using both formative and summative assessment strategies to boost progress, and activate interventions where necessary
  • Leading the work of the lab technician so as to ensure timely, effective and safe management of practicals, equipment and laboratories
  • Review and revise all risk assessments, policies and departmental documentation to ensure they reflect international gold standards
  • Identify up to date, relevant resources needed to support learning and teaching, and working to embed, develop and refine these for the benefit of students
  • Contributing to departmental and whole school improvement including reviewing and updating the curriculum, methods of learning & teaching, schemes of work and assessments.
  • Confidence in, and ability to deliver, a wide range of teaching methodology including the most up to date strategies for online and face to face delivery.
  • A willingness to engage in school-based, external and independent Professional Learning including curricular developments
  • Ensuring high levels of achievement and attainment through high expectations, collegiate working, effective communication, and quality learning and teaching.
  • A commitment to collegiate working and quality assurance within and across the Science department.
  • Monitoring and recording pupil progress and reporting in line with school policies.
  • Contributing voluntarily to interdisciplinary learning initiatives within the school
  • Positive marketing and promotion of the work of the Science Department at home and abroad.
  • Arranging and regularly refreshing effective displays of pupil work both in classrooms and around the school
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills, including the meeting of all whole school and departmental deadlines.
  • Being fully involved in the wider life of the school, including the running of extra-curricular clubs and study sessions
  • Supporting the science department with field trips, entering national competitions and awards and developing a passion for Science related experiential learning across all year groups.
  • Willingly contributing to and supporting whole school events and extra-curricular activities as they arise.
  • Positively representing the department and the school in person and online, to parents, visitors, the community and other schools within the immediate locale and beyond.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duty assigned by the Principal or Senior Deputy

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

 

  • Potential applicants should possess many, if not all of the following:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education (or PGCE / equivalent)
  • Established teaching experience in a range of educational settings
  • Genuine interest in developing a best in class science programme and the interpersonal and leadership skills to implement this
  • High professional standards and a dedication to excellence across all aspects of school life
  • Confident, articulate communication skills
  • A positive and flexible approach to school life
  • Resilience and determination
  • Experience of and willingness to engage in quality assurance processes for continuous improvement
  • Some ability to speak Italian is desirable although not essential
  • Enjoyment and genuine interest in working with and learning from students aged 11 - 14

 

Owing to the complexities of the Italian immigration process, it is advantageous if candidatespossess an EU passport, or with a valid work permit (permesso di soggiorno) that enables them to work in Italy.
