ROLE SUMMARY:

St. Louis School is a leading international school in Milan and part of the Inspired Education Group, a global network of premium schools committed to excellence in academics, arts and sports. Teaching and learning are delivered in English, and students are prepared for progression into IGCSE and IBDP pathways within the St. Louis School group.

 

We are seeking a well-qualified and enthusiastic Middle School English Teacher to join the Colonna Campus from August 2026. The successful candidate will teach English across the Middle School years (Key Stage 3 equivalent), delivering engaging, challenging and well-structured lessons that develop students’ literacy, analytical thinking and communication skills.

 

The ideal candidate will inspire a love of literature and language while maintaining high academic standards and supporting students within a multilingual, international environment. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging English lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum and the British educational framework.
  • Develop students’ reading, writing, speaking and analytical skills through structured and differentiated teaching.
  • Foster a love of literature, language and critical thinking.
  • Create a positive, inclusive and academically ambitious classroom environment.
  • Assess, monitor and report on student progress to ensure high standards of attainment.
  • Prepare students effectively for progression into IGCSE pathways.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, departmental development and sharing of best practice.
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour and contribute to pastoral care.
  • Engage positively with parents and the wider school community.
  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English or a closely related field.
  • PGCE or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching English at secondary or upper primary level.
  • Strong classroom management and organisational skills.
  • Native-level or near-native proficiency in English, with excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • A collaborative, student-centred and reflective approach to teaching.
  • Experience within the British curriculum (desirable).
  • Experience in an international or multilingual school setting (desirable).
  • Familiarity with IGCSE preparation (desirable).
  • Italian language skills are advantageous but not essential.

 

Requirements

  • Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent).
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • An EU passport or valid visa to work in Italy would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the British curriculum is preferred.
