Job Purpose
To deliver outstanding Mathematics teaching across the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the IB Diploma Programme (DP), supporting students to achieve excellent outcomes, develop critical thinking, and become confident, internationally minded learners.
OUR SCHOOL:
Founded in 1958, ISM caters for approximately 1000 students from more than 60 nationalities. Our new campus opened in September 2013, incorporating a theatre, swimming pool and a full-size gymnasium as well as specialist classrooms, labs, libraries, arts and music areas. All of our sections are fully authorised for International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes – Primary Years Programme (PYP) from Kindergarten to Grade 6; Middle Years Programme (MYP) from Grades 7 to 11; Diploma Programme (DP) in Grades 12 and 13. ISM is the most established IB world school in Italy and has an excellent record of results in the Diploma. Wi-Fi is enabled throughout the campus to support the school’s 1:1 learning project, with every student having access to a personal tablet or laptop. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and Learning
- Teach Mathematics across MYP and IB Diploma levels, delivering high-quality, inquiry-based lessons.
- Differentiate instruction to support the learning needs of all students.
- Encourage the development of problem-solving, reasoning, and analytical skills.
- Set and assess classwork, homework, and formal assessments in line with MYP/IB standards.
- Foster a supportive, inclusive classroom environment that reflects the school’s values and the IB Learner Profile.
Curriculum and Assessment
- Contribute to the development and review of Mathematics curricula and units of inquiry.
- Use formative and summative assessment to inform planning and monitor student progress.
- Support students in their preparation for MYP eAssessments and IB final examinations.
- Integrate technology and digital tools effectively in the classroom.
Pastoral and Co-Curricular Contribution
- Act as a form tutor or advisor if required, supporting the academic and personal development of students.
- Participate in co-curricular activities, school trips, and events as part of the wider school life.
- Promote international-mindedness and uphold the IB philosophy in all aspects of school life.
Professional Development and Collaboration
- Engage in regular professional learning and contribute to departmental planning and reflection.
- Attend staff meetings, parent conferences, and contribute to the school’s continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with colleagues across subject areas to support interdisciplinary learning.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
Essential
- A degree in Mathematics or a closely related subject.
- A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or international equivalent).
- Experience teaching Mathematics at secondary level.
- Strong understanding of, or willingness to train in, MYP and IB DP frameworks.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience teaching the IB MYP and/or IB Diploma Programme.
- Experience in international education or a multicultural setting.
- Enthusiasm for contributing to school-wide initiatives and co-curricular programmes
- to be an EU passport holder or already be in possession of permit that allows work and residence in Italy;
Previous experience with IB programmes is not required and official IB training will be offered, together with relocation assistance and help with the apartment search.
