ROLE SUMMARY:

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Middle School Humanities Teacher for our Colonna Campus to commence employment in August 2025.

 

St Louis School in Milan is a private international school which caters for 1,700 children from the ages of 2 to 18. For students aged 2 to 14 years, Foundation Stage to Year 9, our Colonna Campus offers a curriculum based on the British National Curriculum. The Middle School (Key Stage 3) ends with the Cambridge Checkpoint English examination in Year 9 leading into the IGCSE and IBDP examinations in the High School. Our Middle School students achieve exceptionally well, operating at a high level of fluency in English, knowing that approximately 80% of our students do not operate in English as their first language. 

 

St Louis High School has an exceptional average IB Diploma score and has been placed as one of the highest scoring schools in continental Europe for the last eight years running. St Louis School is part of the prestigious INSPIRED school network (www.inspirededu.co.uk). 

 

We are currently seeking to hire a creative and dynamic Humanities Teacher who is fully qualified to work with Middle School aged students; an educator who will be able to adapt quickly to a new and exciting learning environment, an educator with strong empathy skills who is willing to use relational strategies in a stimulating learning environment with students from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

 

A strong commitment to purposeful teaching and learning, collaborative planning and open communication is essential. Proven experience within an international, bilingual or multilingual context would also be useful.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Candidates should:

  • Be fully qualified and experienced in working with children of Middle School age (Key Stage 3) and able to adapt quickly to a new and exciting learning environment. 
  • Have a flexible, communicative professional with strong empathy skills who understands the value of positive teacher/student/parent relationships, in a stimulating learning environment with students from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. 
  • Have a strong commitment to purposeful learning and teaching, collaborative planning and open communication. We pride ourselves on the commitment offered by our friendly and professional staff. 
  • Be willing to be active, resilient participants in a very hard-working team of teachers.
  • Proven experience within an international, bilingual or multilingual context would also be useful, as well as an understanding of how to teach, as necessary in blended and online situations, as we have experienced here in Italy in the last few years. 

Please note that the role is not for an NQT. 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Good Honours Degree in History and/or Geography discipline plus PGCE
  • Established experience in teaching in the Middle School - No NQTs please.
  • Be an English first language user with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate an ability in engaging with students and teaching staff alike, always maintaining a high standard of work.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and professionalism at all times.
  • Have a positive and flexible approach to school life and a well-developed ability to work in a team.
  • To demonstrate an ability in engaging with students and the teaching staff alike, maintaining a high standard of attainment at all times.
  • The ability to create a happy, challenging and effective learning environment.
  • A valid visa that enables you to work in Italy would be an advantage.
  • Hold “Qualified Teacher Status” or an equivalent qualification.
  • Have a minimum of two years’ teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of the UK National Curriculum is essential.
