Head of Boarding

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Head of Boarding will have overall responsibility for the leadership, management, and strategic development of the boarding house, which currently accommodates 63 students from Grade 10 to Grade 13 across the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). The successful candidate will ensure the highest standards of pastoral care, student wellbeing, and personal development within a warm, inclusive, and structured environment.

The International School of Milan is seeking an outstanding, experienced, and dynamic Head of Boarding to lead and develop our thriving full boarding programme. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide visionary leadership for the boarding provision, aligning it with the school’s values and strategic priorities
• Lead, manage, and inspire a dedicated team of boarding staff, fostering a strong sense of community and shared purpose
• Ensure outstanding pastoral care, safeguarding, and wellbeing for all boarding students
• Develop and enhance a full boarding programme, including evenings and weekends, with a rich variety of activities and experiences
• Promote a culture of respect, independence, and international-mindedness among students
• Work closely with academic staff to support student progress and achievement
• Build strong relationships with parents, maintaining clear communication and trust
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the boarding house, ensuring a safe, well-organised, and welcoming environment

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

• Proven experience in a boarding leadership role, ideally within an international or IB school context
• A strong track record in pastoral care and safeguarding
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
• Experience of working with students aged 15–18 in a residential setting
• A commitment to holistic education and student wellbeing
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Energy, warmth, resilience, and a genuine passion for boarding life
