The International School of Milan is seeking a caring, enthusiastic and proactive Early Years Teaching Assistant to join the school from August 2026.
The successful candidate will support teaching and learning within the Early Years setting, working closely with the class teacher to create a safe, engaging and stimulating environment for young learners. This role requires patience, energy and a genuine passion for supporting children’s early development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging, play-based learning experiences
  • Lead learning with individual children and small groups to support development
  • Assist in setting up and maintaining a stimulating Early Years learning environment
  • Support children’s social, emotional and physical development
  • Help manage classroom routines, transitions and behaviour in a positive manner
  • Contribute to monitoring children’s progress and communicate observations to the class teacher
  • Support children with additional needs where required
  • Ensure a safe, clean and well-organised classroom environment
  • Supervise children during playtime, activities and school events
  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times 

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE: 

Essential

  • Experience working with young children (ages 2–5)
  • A warm, patient and nurturing approach
  • High expectations of behaviour and age-related learning outcomes
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Energy, flexibility and a proactive attitude
  • Legal right to live and work in Italy (EU passport or valid work permit) 

 

Desirable

  • Relevant Early Years or childcare qualification
  • Experience in an international or bilingual setting
  • Understanding of Reggio-Emilia, play-based or inquiry-led learning approaches
  • Experience supporting children with additional learning needs
  • Italian language skills (advantageous but not essential)
