Job Purpose

To deliver high-quality teaching and learning in Business and Economics, inspiring and challenging students to achieve their potential and develop a deep interest in the subjects. The teacher will contribute to the academic success of the department and support the wider life of the school.

OUR SCHOOL:

Founded in 1958, ISM caters for approximately 1000 students from more than 60 nationalities. Our new campus opened in September 2013, incorporating a theatre, swimming pool and a full-size gymnasium as well as specialist classrooms, labs, libraries, arts and music areas. All of our sections are fully authorised for International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes – Primary Years Programme (PYP) from Kindergarten to Grade 6; Middle Years Programme (MYP) from Grades 7 to 11; Diploma Programme (DP) in Grades 12 and 13. ISM is the most established IB world school in Italy and has an excellent record of results in the Diploma. Milan has long been considered the dynamo of the Italian economy and the country’s most cosmopolitan and forward-looking city. Located near the heart of Europe, it is extremely well-connected with three major airports and easy roads and rail inks across the country and the continent.  Although Milan is a busy commercial Centre, the artistic and cultural heritage of Italy is prominent, from galleries and theatres to its fame as a global Centre for fashion, design, nightlife, cuisine and lifestyle.  There is a history of sporting excellence and its location near the mountains, lakes and the Mediterranean Sea makes it ideal for sporting activities as well as its renowned professional teams. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning

• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in Business and Economics across Key Stages 4 and 5 MYP and DP
• Foster an environment that encourages a love of learning, academic curiosity, and critical thinking.
• Use assessment data effectively to monitor progress and adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
• Set and mark homework, coursework, and exams in accordance with school policies.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of curriculum developments and examination board requirements.

Curriculum and Assessment

• Contribute to the development and review of the curriculum and schemes of work.
• Prepare students thoroughly for internal and external examinations.
• Assist with moderation, standardisation, and the analysis of student performance data.

Pastoral and Co-Curricular Involvement

• Take an active role in the pastoral care and wellbeing of students.
• Act as a form tutor if required, supporting the academic and personal development of tutees.
• Contribute to the wider life of the school through co-curricular activities, trips, and events related to Business and Economics.

Professional Development and Contribution to School Life

• Engage in professional development to continually improve practice.
• Participate in staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and open days.
• Support the values and ethos of the school and act as a role model within the school community.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

Essential

• A relevant degree in Business, Economics, or a related subject.
• A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or international equivalent).
• Experience teaching Business and/or Economics at secondary level.
• Strong subject knowledge and understanding of current educational practices.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

Desirable

• Experience teaching in an international or boarding school context.
• Familiarity with multiple curricula IB and MYP
• Ability to contribute to the development of enterprise or financial literacy programmes.
• Willingness to contribute to wider school initiatives and co-curricular life.
• to be an EU passport holder or already be in possession of permit that allows work and residence in Italy.

Previous experience with IB programmes is not required and official IB training will be offered, together with relocation assistance and help with the apartment search.
